Classic Blue and White Wedding in Cape Cod With Butterflies

You would never believe it, but these two love birds were once childhood frenemies, so much so that the groom once drew an “X” over the bride's yearbook photo! But destiny had a different plan for them both, and we’re happy to say that their love story blossomed into the storybook wedding you’re about to see!

Their hometown of Cape Cod was the idyllic setting with ocean views at the lovely Oyster Harbors Club. Daylynn Designs styled their day in shades of blue and white and lots of paper butterflies, which was inspired by the couple's favorite song, “Butterflies” by Kacey Musgraves. So cute right?! From Daylynn Designs: Acquaintances since elementary school while growing up in Osterville, MA, the couple still laughs about the time Shae drew a big, bold “X” across Miah’s picture in their school yearbook. Fast forward to this year, the couple found themselves planning a wedding full of playful, yet sophisticated details honoring their long-lasting friendship and romance. Along with their shared history that includes many memories of growing up in the same town, central to the wedding design and accompanying details was the couple’s favorite Kacey Musgraves song, "Butterflies", whose lyrics not only inspired the couple but also their event planner and designer, Rachel Lynn of Cape Cod-based event planning and design company Daylynn Designs.

To weave elements of the song throughout the day, Lynn pulled from Musgraves’ lyrics, “Then out of the blue, I fell for you. Now you’re liftin’ me up ‘stead of holding me down .. Untangled all the strings round my wings, they were tied. I didn’t know him and I didn’t know me. Cloud nine was always out of reach. Now I remember what it feels like to fly, you give me butterflies.”

Like a story playfully unfolding throughout the day, much as the couple’s romance did over time, the result was a lyrically-inspired wedding laced with details nodding to elements from the song, including beautiful blue tones mixed with soft, cloud-like textures and butterfly details throughout.

Then out of the blue ...The wedding’s color palette relied on varying shades of blue, a color story bolstered the existing coastal hues inside the church, the Oyster Harbor Club reception venue and the ocean just beyond. Adding to this, the bridesmaids’ wore ethereal gowns in muted blues for a look that subtly matched the shifting beauty of the ocean’s surface.

What it feels like to fly ... Flowers designed and installed by Boston-based luxury florist Laura Jean Floral brought the lightness of butterflies taking flight to the event florals and bride’s bouquet, each accented with dried Ruscus to mimic the flutter of butterfly wings and dried Lunaria for the shape of soft, delicately floating clouds.

Untangled all the strings round my wings … Continuing the themes of lightness and flight running throughout the ceremony and reception, Daylynn Designs’ inventive white-framed escort card display featured paper butterflies hand-strung in a fan-like diagonal formation resembling a kaleidoscope in flight. Beautiful hand calligraphy, by Ridgely Calligraphy, noted the names and seating assignments on card fronts.
