Just like in life, while wedding planning, don't be afraid to change your mind. Our next lovely couple thought they knew exactly what they wanted in a wedding venue after having been guests at a number of their friend's weddings. However, wouldn't you know it, their hearts lead them down a completely alternative path.
Keep scrolling to hear all about it from the very fun bride, and don't miss a single detail of their gorgeous wedding day thanks to a full gallery pack with photos from Rachel Solomon Photography.
Bryan and I met at work - we are both driven and focused type-A consultants. Not your typical romantic intro to a love story, but a good place to start so that you understand why we were committed to throwing a celebration that was a) awesome and b) very clearly us. And with the help of some VERY talented vendors and our friends and family, we think we pulled it off - in a way that highlighted the love we have for each other with some of our signature silliness sprinkled throughout.
We had been to our fair share of weddings over our 4+ years of dating and as a testament to how amazing those celebrations had been, we thought we knew exactly what we wanted (famous last words, right?). A rustic, California winery vibe somewhere in the central coast of our great state. But the more venues we saw, the more we were convinced that, while gorgeous, they weren’t us.
That’s when we started considering the desert. The Palm Springs area has been a home away from home for me since I was a child, and Bryan has grown to love it just as much as I do. Not only that but Stagecoach, the annual country music festival held in Indio, very quickly became our favorite weekend of the year. Looking back, we use it to track how our relationship has progressed - from that first year of barely knowing each other and meeting up periodically to share a dance, to the most recent trip sporting some sparkly new jewelry on THAT finger.
The first time we walked through the front gate at Colony 29, we did that "glance at each other knowingly" thing... it was the place for us and we knew we had to start our lives together there. The whole place is absolutely gorgeous. We loved the houses on the property, the intimate spaces that offered unique experiences for each part of the weekend, and the awesome mountain views surrounding the property was the cherry on top.
The space and the desert itself provided the inspiration for the details. We wanted it to be romantic and feminine, but with an edge. Once I found the bridesmaid dresses (Jenny Yoo in the fantastic cinnamon rose color), that solidified the color palette - cinnamon rose, desert greenery (eucalyptus, cactus, etc) and pops of metallic (bronze, gold, copper).
The day-of was an amazing and love-filled blur. We have so many people to thank for pulling off the most special day of our lives. None of this could’ve been possible without our talented planner extraordinaire, Tricia Dahlgren, who has kept us sane throughout this whole process. Luna at Arrangements Floral & Party Design absolutely nailed the decor. She created gorgeous, romantic bouquets with little bold surprises throughout.
The skillful hands of the great Suzie Moldavon (make-up) and Sarah Combs (hair) made all of the ladies feel like queens.
Randy Westwood’s BBQ catering was delicious and exactly what we wanted - and who would’ve thought you could find great BBQ in Palm Springs?!
Our officiant, Dan Weed, is a close family friend who we are so honored was able to bless our marriage and encourage us to love one another and build a home that honors God for the rest of our lives.
And we would be remiss not to mention (explain?) the penguin ring bearer - Harvey. Harvey was the result of one of our first dates at the Orange County fair. As our “first born”, he has been a staple at many a significant event in our lives and we couldn’t have had our wedding without him!
