David and Ashley met through friends and instantly bonded over the mutual love for good music. Even though Ashley had an inkling that David was going to propose, he still managed to pull off the surprise! After a date at the restaurant where they first met, David and Ashley got back in the car to go home; however, David made an unexpected detour to a bridge overlooking the city where he proposed in front of their friends and family. The couple loves Tulum, so it was a natural fit for them to get married there for their "Becoming Blue" wedding, planned with the help of Arlenis Ruiz Weddings and captured by Conie Suarez Bravo.
David and Ashley chose Papaya Playa Project on a full moon for their guests to experience the venue’s Full Moon Musical Journey as the ‘after party,’ and it far exceeded any of their expectations of what a wedding day could be! The wedding was also around Dia de Muertos- a celebration that the venue decorates for that should not be missed. The venue was beautiful, accommodating, alternative, holistic, creative and especially full of amazing music.
Ashley's dress was custom made for her after she quickly realized that bridal boutique dress shopping was not for her. After finding a designer who could bring her dress to life in her price range, she made the decision to move forward and never looked back. She sent Lana and team her dress inspo and measurements, and Lana sent back a sketch that also turned into an amazing keepsake. She messaged Ashley updates throughout the process and asked for input throughout. After the final touches, the dress was packed up and shipped to the bride. It was truly a dream dress come true!
The bride's bouquet was hand made by Ashley herself the day before the wedding, and she even DIY'd the bridesmaids' fans, too!
Is wedding planning getting to you? Elope in Tulum like this couple!
A dreamy Tulum jungle wedding in tones of terracotta
For the ceremony, the adult flower girl tossed petals AND beers to our guests ... and pulled the ultimate “ice!”
The bride and groom enjoyed a "something blue" reception complete with light blue linens, blue and white floral centerpieces by Mon Amour Florals, and neon blue lights that ran down the center of the tables, creating an epic glow as the sun went down.
The newlyweds shared their first dance in an open-air reception space under large, sparkling disco balls that added an extra special element to the space.
The strip of blue neon lights got the party started naturally as the sun set in Tulum. It was also the perfect decor detail to help the photographer capture concert-style, documentary photos of candid reception moments.
"Being so Type A, we weren’t sure what to expect from a wedding planning team, but when we got to Tulum for our welcome event and wedding day, we didn’t have to remember or think of a single THING other than ourselves and being present. Because we outlined every tiny detail in advance with Arlenis and Andrea, everything was flawless. We had a pop-up storm right before the wedding, and I had no idea (until afterwards!) that things got wet, and some flowers toppled over (due to Mother Nature alone) because the team took care of it before we could think twice. Everything was dry and in its place in time for the reception!"
"What helped us most was having been to our destination previously. It’s not always possible, of course, but it eased our minds and removed so many unknowns from destination wedding planning."
