Black is not often the focus of wedding color palettes. Usually, it just makes an appearance in the menswear or subtle decor items, but for this San Diego wedding, black had a starring role. Black invites, black bridesmaid dresses, and black tuxes set the stage for this moody wedding design. To add a little romance to the palette, soft pinks, ivory, and deep burgundy were sprinkled in here in there in the form of flowers or linens.
Junipero Serra Museum, a historic San Diego landmark, was the perfect contrast to this dark color palette, with its bright white interior. Royal Flowers And Events created these lovely floral arrangements focusing on dark greens and burgundies to add depth and romance to the wedding design. These photos by Samantha Phillips Photography are so beautifully cohesive. We love how they really make the dark elements pop against the bright backdrop. This incredible Junipero Serra Museum wedding at Predio Park was the epitome of edgy meets romance! Not only did this wedding take place in an iconic San Diego location, but Shelby and Chris undoubtedly have the best style. Between Shelby's epic getting-ready robe, sparkly bridal boots, black bridesmaid dresses, and floral palette, I truly cannot pick my favorite part. Shelby works in the wedding industry and is an incredibly talented hairstylist, so I knew her day would be nothing short of incredible!
We began the day in Downtown San Diego at the Gaslamp Plaza Suites where Shelby and Chris got ready in separate rooms. This hotel was perfect to get ready in because the rooms had such great natural light and there was also a beautiful rooftop terrace that we took advantage of. After some fun champagne spray photos with her bridesmaids on the roof, Shelby changed out of her epic getting ready robe and into her wedding dress. We then headed straight to the Junipero Serra Museum where their ceremony and reception took place.
The Junipero Serra Museum is a stunning and significant historical site in San Diego. Presidio Park was founded in 1769 when the Spanish Franciscan missionary, Father Junipero Serra, established California's first mission and fort. The Museum was later established in 1929. This landmark is a symbol of the city and it's not hard to see why. It was such a perfect backdrop for Shelby and Chris to exchange their vows and celebrate under the market lights!
1. Design your wedding around things that inspire you! For example, Shelby's fluffy getting-ready robe and her sparkly bridal boots were glam-inspired.
2. Make your day unique to you and your partner. Personalize things (whether it's the playlist or the decor) that reflect who you are as a couple.
3. Hire a planner/coordinator so you can relax and soak in every moment of the day!
