An Unexpected Elegant And Modern Wedding Day

Lindsey and Gabe's "rustic" wedding day might have you thinking... hold on a minute. If you were expecting barns, burlap and boots then all we have to say is, plans change. And that is a great lesson to learn. If you have an idea of what you think you want your day to be, great! But don't hold on to it too tightly, plans change and your dream wedding might be nothing like what you had originally expected. This rustic wedding turned chic modern garden affair is a prime example.

We will never forget the moment the bride Lindsey and her mother Deena walked into the tent at Elm Bank on Lindsey’s wedding day. They squealed with delight. A family friend said “Oh my god, this is the most beautiful wedding I have ever seen!! We thought you said this was going to be RUSTIC?!”. We all laughed. “The vision evolved,” we said with a smile.
And that it did. While the vision for the wedding was initially “rustic”, they wanted to ensure it was also elegant, timeless, natural, and truly reflected Lindsey and Gabe as a couple. Together, we created a luxurious garden vibe, filled with intricate marble pieces and gold details, enticing experiences for guests, personal touches (like nods to the couple’s instafamous dog @bodie.blue) and our fav: we coined the 3 P’s: Parasols, Palomas and Pedicabs!

The Inspiration

The couple’s unique openness to bringing in their own personal style, despite what was expected, became our inspiration - the bride’s fashion sense, the style of their new Brooklyn home (filled with marble details) and the intricate parts of their home-life they love (like their puppy) were pulled in often to turn this “rustic” wedding into a serious soiree.

A Touch Of Marble

One of our favorite design details was mixing marble pieces with natural and modern touches - including marble signage and menus with soft gold letterpress, gold flatware that glimmered amongst the soft gray candles and greenery, and modern industrial sphere lighting hanging above a mix of wood farm tables. But it wasn’t just the design that made the party so memorable. It was the experiences that truly kept people guessing.

Fun And Unexpected

From the moment they arrived, guests were offered pedicabs rides down to the ceremony, where they sipped rosé under their personal parasols. They were whisked into the secluded secret Italianate Garden at Elm Bank for the ceremony, then sipped Palomas and noshed in Wheezies Garden prior to dinner in the tent. The dancing vibe started the moment guests entered the tent and didn’t stop the entire night! The night was topped off with an unexpected surprise - the Cookie Monstah truck! And we hear the bride did a pretty sweet stage dive at the end.

Mother Daughter Planning

We consider ourselves so lucky to have been a part of this amazing day. We initially met the bride, Lindsey through her mother Deena. Deena and Michael Baker are the owners of Boston-based catering company, Bakers Best. Deena is one of the most loving and fun mothers I’ve ever met, so when we met her at an industry event, we instantly connected. Deena was thrilled to help her daughter Lindsey plan her dream wedding and knew she needed a design and planning team to pull together the vision - especially since Lindsey and Gabe were living in Brooklyn.
We soon met Lindsey and adored her, becoming fast BFFs. The couple initially told us they wanted something rustic and of course, for it to be the most fun party they had ever been to. And obviously, Bakers' Best was catering it! We were able to pull together a phenomenal vendor team - really the best of the best, to make this day everything they wanted!

Budget Breakdown

Budget: $300,000+ (not including rings, dress/tux, honeymoon, travel)
Number of Guests: 225 attendees, 250 invited
Biggest costs:
The Band, around $30k - we wanted the best band and this was extremely important to us. They also traveled from New York.
Tenting - this was one of the biggest costs ~$20-30k
Catering - with family in the catering business this was extremely important to us

Other expenses: welcome bags, after party, rehearsal dinner (around $20k), custom touches (signage, napkins, parasols) hair, makeup, clothing, transportation - we wanted the details to really shine throughout the enter wedding. From the minute the guests boarded the buses to Elm Bank to the after party, every detail was planned to create a seamless, fun weekend for all of our guests.
