A Unique and Colorful Wedding at the Fig House

Tiffany and Mike celebrate their quirky modern wedding

The jewel-toned, midcentury modern design of the Fig House in LA was the perfect setting for Tiffany and Mike’s unique wedding vision. They wanted their day to be anything but typical so they opted out of common traditions in favor of a wedding with more personality and pizazz.

From the colorful repurposed decor to all the personal details throughout, their stylish day was not only beautiful but looked like a total blast! Join the fun below, and find more fantastic wedding inspiration in the full gallery from Laura Ford Photos

unique wedding design

From the bride: As an interior design PR executive by day and moonlighting as a wedding coordinator on the weekends, I had plenty of design ideas to incorporate into my own wedding! Mike and I didn't behold ourselves to a particular theme or color palette except for a broad "jewel tones, things that match The Fig House, and lots of pink!" direction.

colorful, eclectic, whimsical

The decor was meant to be colorful, eclectic, whimsical and inspired by everything I loved from weddings I’ve coordinated or found on Pinterest. We really wanted our wedding to be something uniquely personal to us. There were little details that our guests probably didn't notice that were inside jokes to us – some were even surprises for each other! We had tiny Monopoly houses painted gold and themed "property" detail cards in our invites because we love the game; Cracker Jack boxes were a nod to Breakfast at Tiffany's; we named our speakeasy The Bear & Fawn after a YouTube video that cracks us up – Mike even bought a bear and fawn lawn statues! Bic pens, a Game of Thrones cake topper, and a "member berries" sign on our sweetheart table were all meant to make us smile throughout the day.

focus on what's important

We left out traditional activities that didn’t suit us, such as the garter and bouquet toss, parents’ dances or a send-off. We also wanted things to be eco-friendly and somewhat cost-effective so we eschewed some of the typical things like printed save-the-dates, RSVP cards, menus, programs, and a guest book. We used recycled tile samples that would otherwise have been thrown away for our escort cards (hand-lettered by me!), and a birdcage I found behind our house that I painted for the "guestbook." We limited one-time use items and bought things we knew we could pass on to other couples for their weddings.

surprise details

Mike really wanted to have a few surprises for our guests – an Irish jig for St. Patrick's Day, an In-and-Out truck for late night snacks, and a speakeasy-style Irish whiskey tasting. We just wanted everyone to have a good time since our families and many of our friends traveled from out of state. He works in the film industry so we had a few movie-themed decor items, and our rehearsal dinner was even at a movie theater – iPic in Pasadena. We showed "How to Steal a Million" with Audrey Hepburn and had movie-themed cocktails! Our wedding also had a photo booth, plenty of dancing, and a few signature cocktails to entertain our guests.

Bring on the dessert

The dessert table was really important for us because we love treats! We had three cakes with different looks and flavors, complemented with mini donuts – all were vegan. This was an area I really went crazy on because I knew I could be creative and colorful, and create a focal point. In addition to our very talented cake designer, our florist really brought the dessert table to life and tied it in with the rest of the room. It really was the best day ever for us and we look forward to more special moments in our future!
