The white sand beaches and swaying palm trees of Cabo San Lucas make it a dreamy location for weddings - and for Stephanie + Tommy it was the perf place to exchange their vows with 150 of their favorite people celebrating right along with them.
Bliss Events helped pull together the natural, bohemian vibe they were going for at the Cabo Surf Hotel, which included their dreamy seaside ceremony with a gorgeous circle arbor covered in flowers, while their chic reception was a mix of natural wood elements, string lighting, and tables named after their favorite cities. We wanted the natural beauty of the beach to shine through above all else, so we opted for colors and a mood that would fit with our surroundings at Playa Acapulquito and Cabo Surf Hotel. Attire was casual, and many went barefoot on the beach during our ceremony (including the bride!) Bridesmaids picked their own dresses from a palette of greens and blues, and groomsmen wore their own dark blue suits with matching sage green pocket squares.
The beautiful floral hoop at our "altar" was actually a suggestion from Bonnie at Bliss Events– I didn't love the idea of blocking the beach view behind us, and she suggested this as an alternative to a traditional chuppah. It was the perfect backdrop for us, unobtrusive but romantic and lively. Plus, I loved its resemblance to a ring– just like the ones we would exchange, rings are a symbol of eternity, so perfect for a wedding ceremony.
The reception vibe was romantic but casual, and we let our surroundings do most of the heavy lifting again. We opted for rectangular tables so that guests could talk to each other easily, and named each table after one of our favorite cities. Palm trees that framed the lawn were strung with string lights, and candles of all shapes and sizes lit each table. We left the dark wood of our tables exposed, and adorned their centers with vines of romantic florals in cheery colors and textures, on a base of eucalyptus and rosemary. These design choices helped make our wedding feel small and intimate, despite a guest count of 150.
Bonnie at Bliss Events really helped us understand the landscape of venues across Cabo. She was patient and thorough during our venue search. Once we selected Cabo Surf and moved from venue searching to designing the event, she helped crystalize many of my ideas that I couldn't quite put into words. She captured the natural, romantic and bohemian vibe we sought, while maintaining the vibe of a laidback beach wedding. Bonnie listened and provided suggestions and ideas when we were unsure which direction to take design wise. She helped us decide on the floral hoop at the altar (which I loved so much that I cried when I first saw it from afar!) and when I asked for a simpler take on bridesmaid bouquets, Bonnie fashioned the mini floral hoops, eclectic but understated.
Aside from the some of the best speeches we've ever heard at a wedding (okay, we are biased!) and a really fun first dance, one of the most memorable moments of the evening came when we completely surprised our guests, including our families and bridal party, with fireworks. We kept this a secret to just the two of us (and Bliss Events of course)– so everyone was truly blown away when fireworks were set off at the same time as the official 'opening' of the dance floor by the DJ, with Rihanna's "We Found Love." The dance floor did not stop once from there on out, thanks to our amazing friend DJ Mick. From Drake to ABBA, he covered all the bases for us. Another special moment was when Tommy and I snuck away to cut the cake alone– just the two of us. It was nice to have a private moment for just the two of us while the dance floor bustled on. We made a point to step back and absorb the amazing feeling of the night multiple times– so it didn't pass us by too quickly.
