Moody Adventure Elopement In The Pacific Northwest

Adventurous wedding couple explores rocky ocean coast

Deciding to elope opens up your wedding location options, so why not go for something a little out of the ordinary? This couple loves the great outdoors, so when it came time to choose a location they were on the fence between a beach and a forest elopement, thankfully in the Pacific Northwest, you can get the best of both worlds. They started with a heartfelt vow exchange among the redwoods and ferns, then took a stroll together along the rocky shoreline that made for some pretty epic pics. We love that they still went full-glam with their wedding looks, but weren't too precious about them when it came to water and dirt. They poured all of themselves into the experience and it shows in the joy on their faces.

Sam Starns LLC was right there with the couple as they explored their surroundings, capturing candid photos all along the way. We especially love how moody the portraits on the coastline turned out. Keep reading to hear more about all of the special little details they incorporated into their big day.

THE ADVENTURE OF A LIFETIME

Enchanting forest wedding ceremony for happy couple

Christine and Matt wanted a stress-free day that incorporated their love of adventure (and each other!) in an amazing outdoor setting. They chose the majestic Redwoods/Oregon Coast combo, and it sure delivered! As we all know, the weather can be wicked and unpredictable in the winter months. This elopement had an interesting twist of being right in the middle of a freeze warning, so the moody skies made for awesome photos, and definitely a chilly day. Their elopement festivities kicked off early, with a flight from their home in North Carolina to Portland, followed by a road trip down the 101 highway to the beautiful Redwoods. The day itself was filled with lots of special touches, like Matt’s cufflink portraits of their dogs, Murph and Moochi, and their elopement date embroidered on the inner lapel of his suit.

WHAT TO WEAR

Christine wore a beautiful white stole over her dress (perfect for February!), and both wore Carhartt boots with custom-colored laces that matched Matt’s bowtie. Their team of vendors made the day even more perfect, from Christine’s stunning hair and makeup done by Foils Beauty Lounge in McKinleyville, CA. Plus the show-stopping gown by Vow'd Weddings (out of this world amazing). To top it off Matt looked sharp in his suit by Indochino. All of these awesome vendors worked their magic to make Christine and Matt’s day the best. My best advice for a couple planning an intimate wedding or elopement is to not sweat the small stuff, and make sure the day is truly about you and your partner! Also, don't allow anyone to tell you what you need to have on your big day, do whatever makes you happy!
