the inspo: 90s nostalgia

For our modern wedding photography workshop series, "Capturing Connection, Crafting Depth", Emily Wren Photography and Asya Photography aimed to embody authenticity and nurture connection. For our first workshop, we collaborated with Confetti & Co for design, Styled Bride for planning, and Belovely for floral arrangements to breathe new life into Philadelphia's iconic Merchants Exchange, blending 90s nostalgia with contemporary elegance to reimagine a classic setting.

The initial part of our photoshoot at Power Plant Productions made the most of the abundant natural light, providing a stark contrast that allowed the colorful palette to shine.

The couple's buoyant personalities were the perfect match for the candy-striped backdrop by Dusted Backdrops and a playful tablescape featuring a modern purple color scheme, illuminated by lavender Oaxaca candles and set against BBJ La Tavola's patterned tablecloth.

What truly set this workshop apart was its ability to transform tradition into innovation, infusing every moment with creativity and authenticity. By reimagining classic settings and embracing contemporary trends, we created an immersive experience that left a lasting impact on all who attended.

what they wore

For the main event, the bride wore a dramatic taffeta mermaid gown with a BIG bow detail in the back. The groom brought the color with a statement blue suit and floral printed tie. We are also straight-up obsessed with these pearl platform sandals!

Whether you're looking for outfit inspiration for your own second looks or even an elopement, you can't go wrong with these stunners. The groom wore a mauve suit from Generation Tux, and can we just say...such an underrated color, we LOVE! The bride rocked an adorable tulle mini dress with a veil that was just as voluminous!

In the second half of our modern wedding photography workshop, the couple donned their reception attire, adding a dynamic twist to their portraits with their getaway car at Merchants Exchange. We infused the session with lively '90s elements—featuring a vintage convertible, a playful '90s-style veil and dress, and bright yellow daisies. This fun reinterpretation transformed a traditional must-have spot into a vibrant, eye-catching scene.

When you're considering renting a car for your big exit, remember, it can also double as decor. So, in girl math, that's like getting a free car rental because it can come out of the decor budget 😂. We love that Belovely even made a special floral installation for just that purpose.
