A Pastel Feast for the Eyes Inspired by the Good Ol’ 90s
Harrison officially proposed at a Super Bowl Party after officially getting my parent's blessing that morning. (He tried for months but every time he was in person with my parents, my dad was sick or just got out of surgery and was super out of it.) While neither of us are big sports fans, he wanted to propose in a way I wasn't expecting and brought it back to where we started in our friend's living room. That night he said, "Since the beginning, Maggie and I have had a wonderful relationship together and I have cherished every minute with her and I would like to spend the rest of my minutes with her. Margaret Baker, will you marry me?" He then put the ring on the wrong hand out of nerves. The best part is that the proposal was being recorded, but the only thing that you can actually see on the video is our friend's cat having a photo op.
My vision for our wedding was to feel like you were walking through a wildflower field. Though subtle, flowers were incorporated in multiple aspects of our wedding; the jacquard on my dress, the print on some of the bridesmaid dresses, the daisy runners on the farm tables, and our seating chart.
Harrison and I both attended Appalachian State University and loved the scenery that we saw on a daily basis. When choosing our wedding venue, a few things were important: on-site accommodations, availability for a multi-day event to spend time with our family and friends, and a setting that felt like "us". We wanted things to feel like spring and upscale yet casual.
With a cozy estate and farmland on property, the couple decided on Hawkesdene for their big day and it couldn't have been more perfect for the occasion!
For the big day, Maggie selected a stunning off-the-shoulder floral embossed wedding gown with a mermaid silhouette. For a little added drama, she accessorized with a matching detachable cape and an elegant pearl-beaded veil. Harrison wore a distinguished deep blue suit with a robin's egg blue tie. The bridesmaids also brought in some of the blues from the color palette with mix-and-match dresses in a variety of shades and prints. Even the fur babies were dressed for the occasion with printed bowties and matching leashes.
Lovely pastel floor arrangements greeted guests as they took their seats for the outdoor ceremony. The green of the trees created the perfect canopy overhead and dappled sunlight illuminated the aisle along with candlelit lanterns. The bride and groom were framed by a whimsical floral arch by Sugar Magnolia Flower Co. as they exchanged vows.
When I walked down the aisle, our processional song changed (rather abruptly) to the punk version of "A Thousand Years" by New Found Glory. I planned this as a surprise to help Harrison laugh and calm myself as I walked to him. This is something I had joked about at the beginning of our relationship and was excited to make it come to life. Harrison is a metal head so I figured this would be a good way to blend our types of music into our ceremony. Unfortunately, the music blend didn't work in the slightest but made for a good laugh on my end and a few confused looks from our guests!
Harrison was really excited about the custom drinks. He and a few of our guests specially curated what we referred to as "GG's Heavy Hitter" which was their variation on a Black Manhattan.
One thing I was excited about was the embroidered napkins that I embroidered for all of our guests. Though it took FOREVER, I wanted people to have a personalized favor that they could take home and use at their own tables.
