Intimate DIY Farm Wedding: Greenhouse & Local Charm

Happy interracial couple at rustic outdoor wedding

This shoot is utterly beautiful and inspiring because it showcases the beauty of a wedding that swaps over-the-top decor for DIY details that demonstrate how to bring a natural, intimate gathering to life. While we admire grand weddings with details galore we know that in many cases the average couple doesn’t have the means to put together such an elaborate event.

This intimately styled wedding focuses on relationships, and a balance between DIY projects and investing money in vendors wisely, all to create an incredibly beautiful setting to celebrate those dearest relationships and the start of a lifelong love story. Don't miss a single detail! Visit the full gallery, photographed by All Heart Photo & Video.

Things To Keep In Mind

We hope you all will be inspired to start your marriages around those closest to you, be consciously aware of where the elements of your day are being sourced from, and ultimately take comfort in knowing that intimate weddings are just as much as a celebration as any. We encourage couples to ask friends and family to contribute their talents. After all, friends and family know you best, and their personal contributions can provide a very meaningful addition to the event.

Farm Backyard Greenhouse Venue

On a friend’s farm outside the city of Pittsburgh, PA, we dressed up a backyard greenhouse to hold the wedding. The farm introduced rustic and organic character that paid tribute to our couples sustainable and earth- friendly philosophies. Our bride chose to go with a simple yet stunning crocheted sun dress, and our groom donned a natural indigo-dyed shibori bow tie. Another close friend, and local woodworker, created the natural wood chuppah our couple said their “I-dos” beneath. Adorned with greens from the farm, a large rope to add a modern touch, and artfully crafted macramé hanging baskets, our couple chose to have a private ceremony.

Use What You Have Around You

And now we celebrate! Local brews and craft cocktails, accompanied with a gorgeous hand-calligraphy banner and recipe card for guest to take home and try their hand at the cocktail again and again. Remaining true to the tenets of farm-to-table ideologies; a clean white barn table was the perfect backdrop for fresh peonies, wax flowers, and all sourced from the farm, along with hand turned wooden candle stick holders. The dinner wear might be one of our favorite elements; rich cobalt-blue mosaic plates with folkloric patterns made them perfect for our eclectically themed tablescape and added a bright addition to the rustic setting.

Ice Cream Sandwich Dessert

The gathering of guests over a locally sourced menu was a key factor in our inspiration, and one we knew would be the main source of uniting the guests intimately to the land our couple cherished. When we gather to eat, we make and share cherished moments with family and friends, which are the natural extensions of our values and a steadfast reminder of the beauty of our own relationship and subsequent union. A mobile kitchen provided another fun element to the farm setting. Bypassing the traditional cake, our couple decided ice cream sandwiches would be the perfect sweet.
