I’m a fall fanatic and always have been. There is just so much beauty about the season: it’s the perfect backdrop for a wedding. That being said, it’s probably the season that couples have the biggest challenge with when it comes to ideating decor. There is so much opportunity to go on brand with the autumnal theming, but in all honesty, it’s a very slippery slope from fete-elevating festive to fulsome and falling short. You can get there very easily by taking a ‘too much’ turn with the orange, burnt sienna, and marigold motifs and pumpkin paraphernalia. Thankfully, we chatted with a talented team of wedding vendors and tastemakers, led by Canadian wedding dress boutique, Château Nadia, and event planner Reine Prestige Events to get some pro tips for navigating I Dos in late September through December. Their recent styled shoot is the blueprint we’ll always be coming to for fall weddings.

From jump, this intimate wedding says fall, but not because you’re smacked right in the face by foliage and campfires, apple cider cocktails and lots of plaid. Nope, instead, we get an earthy wooden guest table, bench seating, and pops of color that aren’t cloying like pumpkin orange can potentially be. It’s punchy kumquat orange that accents soft, spirited neutrals - and altogether it feels warm and breathy.

It’s also very cool that the florals aren’t too heavy, they’re delicate and uplifting. The pampas grass gorgeously complements the peach and coral-toned roses, while the shorter vases with velvety-textured sage greenery bring some texture and dimensionality. You kind of get lost in bohemian, desert lust with the sunset shades casting off it all, but then you’re reminded that this is fall and there’s probably a bit of briskness in the air. Yes.

And then, you have the couple, sharing a kiss in front of an epic and super 2020-forward fall backdrop: peacock chairs (which have become the paramount pedestal choice for brides planning drive-by bridal showers and engagement parties) festooned with terracotta-colored balloons. She’s in a spaghetti strapped, macrame-illusion lace slip dress that is phenomenal for the occasion. We’d talk about him, but his simple black tux doesn’t really need much more explanation than that - it’s simple, it’s classic, and it’s right at home at an outdoor venue that convenes nature and nuptials in pure rustic, modern elegance.

Golden hour shots are magic in any season, but there’s something about a fall iteration that just sets our hearts aglow. Total mood right here.

The colored glassware

If you asked anyone what kind of drinkware worked best for a fall wedding, you’d probably get guesses from copper mugs to mason jars. We love that this wedding went another route with sugar maple orange-hued glasses, which photograph like a GD dream.

The geometric menus.

We’ll say it again, fall usually conjures up a lot of floral patterns, tweeds, and houndstooth prints. But this team went a different way, using menus featuring bold brasses and browns in textile-like geometric designs underscored by counterpoint calligraphy.

The pumpkins.

Yes, they were part of the tablescape, but far from basic in interpretation. No mini pumpkin escort cards, no white or cream sugar pumpkin centerpieces. On the contrary, this team’s pumpkins were chic copper statements set amongst wild garland greenery. The effect was beyond.
