From Bella Sera Event Design on how this Nautical masterpiece came to life.
Everything I do starts with a wisp of an idea. It can be something as simple as a photo of an exotic locale, an outfit that someone is wearing on the street, or a piece of jewelry I find in a vintage boutique. This particular inspiration came from the memory of a little girl..that little girl was me...me and my girlfriend sitting around and musing about mermaids and love and of course our weddings....some twenty something years later I decided Bella Sera Event Design absolutely needed to do a nautical inspiration shoot.
At a gift show in New York I came across Grenouille a charming brother and sister duo selling French Antiques. This was it my inspiration piece! An old green wine bottle complete with calcified drips! I instantly thought of messages in a bottle and that was it...from there I went wild. I starting collecting Nautica .... old glass buoys and lanterns that looked like they belonged on a schooner, abalone shells, and big glass jugs of various sizes, an old teak table so weathered it looked as if it was shipwrecked. That was it ....I assembled a team....a team that I believed would take this one from my imagination to reality....what every bride should do!
First thing I did was wrangle my favorite local photographer's schedule to try to squeeze my beach scape in....Once, Suzanne of She Wanders Photography was in... Sharon of Organic Elements was next on my list. I knew that her funky creativity would be the perfect fit to bring this scene to life. Courtney of Brightly Designed not only understood what I was going for but created the most amazing invitations that I could not help but stare at for the better part of an hour. Ray Thomas of The Beautification loved the idea of the modern girl and the sea. He helped to create some fun hairpieces for the look. Concepts is always a wonderful source for topnotch Rentals, and had the perfect white washed Chivari chairs.
I knew that I wanted a beach of course ..then it came to me....The Hotel Del Coronado of course. This heritage hotel was not only on one of San Diego's prettiest beaches but it has a fun antiquity that is perfect for my look. My beautiful bride wore an amazing mermaid-esque Monique Lhullier that hugged her petite curves with a gorgeous lace that looked like it sprang from someone's hope chest. And her Beau wore his own suit with a fun French Connection plaid shirt and leather boat shoes. I am thrilled with how it came together and happy to know that even silly little girl's dreams can still come true!
