For yearsssss we’ve been saying that finding your wedding photographer is one of the most challenging parts of the wedding planning and vendor vetting process. Apart from your wedding planner (if you have one), they’re probably the closest confidant you’ll have for your wedding day, so, obviously that makes landing on the perfect partner oh so important. You’ll want to bring somebody in who can get your personalities in an instant and be able to translate your relationship and love story into pure photographic poetry. You’ll want the promise of eventual photos that you just can’t stop posting on Insta, because they’re just THAT perfect. And you’ll want someone who the two of you just feel totally comfortable with, because you’re going to be their single muse for an entire day — getting along and vibing is crucial. But you’ll also want this unicorn of a person to be up-to-date on all the things that are trending in the wedding world — photo-journalistically — so that you can say you took part in the pop cultural wedding context (even just for a photo or two). With Taylor Jordan Photography, you will have every single wedding photo wish covered off on; she might even introduce you to a few more trends you might want to try on the big day…
Taylor is originally from sunny South Florida, but she’s never been comfy staying in the same place for too long — that’s why she moved to Charleston, SC a few years ago. She’s had a total blast shooting hundreds of incredible weddings and events in the Chucktown area, but she absolutely loves to travel and experience the world through her lens. If she’s not shooting, she can be found enjoying a wine night, attempting to cook for friends, or exploring downtown.
And as for her professional persona and photography style, she says she’s extremely easygoing and light hearted. Clients frequently tell her how “chill/relaxed" she is, and the truth of the matter is, she thinks every wedding couple needs that on their special day. She always comes extensively prepared for each shoot, but she’ll never shy away from getting down on the dance floor with her newlyweds, either.
She’s also an artist through and through. She attended the prestigious Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, FL, continued her education at The Fashion Institute of New York, and received her degree from Florida State University. And taking all of the tutelage from school and real-life application, she combines her knowledge of light, design, and art history to create the most stunning of photos for every shooting venture she books.
She has a phenomenal aesthetic (like really, her feed is 🔥), an incredible reputation and cachet among her clients and the greater Charleston wedding community, AND a beyond-versed understanding of the wedding photography trends blowing up right now. She’ll not only produce the finest and most thoughtful relics of your nuptials, she’ll also make sure you’re embracing every cool and creative way to capture the special day.
If you take anything from this post, let it be this: Find yourself a wedding photographer who does it ALL, not just some of it. Someone who has layers and turns out looks that aren’t always the same, but are always beautiful and dynamic.
Take them all in, digest, and see what seems like a fun fit for your fete
It dominates the editorial world for a reason, and as for Taylor's take — she loves the punchy colors that can be captured at any time of the day.
This one is just so fun! It's a unique photo technique that makes you experience the movement and motion of the shot, almost as if you were right back in the action!
Always classic, but Taylor's seeing it implemented even more (and she’s obvi very here for it): Think: Disposable cameras and polaroids for guests to snap shots with.
Slightly lowered exposures and desaturation, which counters the light, bright, and airy looks that have been killing it for years. It's moody and it's of-the-moment.
Brides are planning more dances, entertainment, and activities in an increased effort to go viral with their photos and videos.
Getting the family involved in unconventional ways for photo opps — want to make your loved ones feel special? Think about farming out fun roles like “flower grandmas!” The photos are epic 👌
Scheduling 15 mins during the reception to step outside and take some funky late-night shots.
They’re empowering, sexy, and they make a great gift for your significant other! It’s also a great chance to test out your wedding glam game (makeup, hair, the lingerie you’ll rock in the bridal suite post-wedding, etc).
Yup. The photos that populate those less-perfectly-curated Instagram posts. These go for a more realistic and less-polished look, but they’re also super personal and more of a documentary of the real-day itself.
Ditching formal family photos and opting for a much more candid/documentary style of shooting. Same goes for YOU, too. If traditional has never made sense to you, then don't force it. Do something cooler.
When you’re wearing a bridal gown, the vignette doesn’t always have to be posed and stuffy; instead, it can be high-fashion-inspired or look like you’re modeling for the designer themselves! After all, #RealBridesWearItBest
Specifically birds eye view, straight down over the ceremony. Sooo many planners have been posting these types of pics (Marcy Blum's featured a bunch of them), and they just make you the focal point of a much bigger picture in life.
Similarly to the photo dump, collages are a social media phenomenon that EVERY couple seems to be getting in on these days. And so, photographers are capturing cool, edgy snaps (some that are even available to use that day/that weekend) that translate well for collage-y filters you can post up on stories, etc.
If at least one picture doesn't show up in greyscale, did a posh, fashion-forward event even happen? We'll leave that up to you...
