This shoot was designed to be size-inclusive, with our gorgeous diverse team of ladies including our leading bride herself. We present Marie Antoinette, a styled shoot created to celebrate avant-garde floral design, haute couture fashion, and extravagance at its finest. We are encouraging brides to go above and beyond for their micro weddings because, though it may be smaller than usual, it should still be a dream. Cascading bouquets by Lena's Floral Designs, luxury headpieces by Maret Kendra, and not one detail worth missing.
For years, Shana DeRoche, Owner and Creative Director of Dreamweaver Events had the idea of directing a creative shoot centered around the opulence and drama surrounding the life and beauty that was Marie Antoinette. When the pandemic lingered far longer than any of the creative industry could have ever imagined, and the ever-rising popularity of period dramas (thank you ‘The Crown’ and ‘Bridgerton’) there seemed to be no better time than the present to design this creative shoot. But she wouldn’t do it alone; a theme of this size and magnitude would need the dramatic expertise of her dear industry friend, Phylicia Mendes, Owner and Creative Director of Jubilee Luxury Events Co.
Together, the two decided to focus the shoot on Marie and her women at court, and could think of no better venue to match the aesthetic than the boutique Windsor Arms Hotel in the Yorkville neighborhood of Toronto. Originally built in 1927, then completely rebuilt in 1999, The Windsor Arms Hotel harmoniously synthesizes the comfort and convenience of the 21st Century with a distinct spirit and the aesthetic quality of a bygone era. Stepping into the lobby of the hotel, one is surrounded by jeweled-toned velvets, paisley and stripes, and larger-than-life metallic details. The bride, modeled by Jazz Afro, is first adorned in a negligee and dripping in jewels and accessories by Maret Kendra and The Loved One. Statuesque in the center of the Gatsby Restaurant at The Windsor Arms Hotel, her hair was styled by Shannon Petrolito and makeup artistry was done by Gassia of Blush X Balm.
Next, met by her women at court, the ladies moved to the Sultan Room, boasting luxurious blue velvet wallpaper. The colorful bridesmaids' gowns were provided by Mode Moviani, and their hair and makeup design was provided by Prerna & Co., Jacque Artistry, and Shannon Petrolito. The bride wore the gorgeous ‘Brooke’ gown by Milla Nova, featuring off-the-shoulder straps and beaded lace appliqués throughout, provided by Toujours Bridal. Her custom headpiece was created by Maret Kendra. The ladies at court traveled over to the floral tea room, featuring beautiful floral furniture, robin's egg blue textured wallpaper, and regal gold-framed artwork. The luxuriously artistic desserts displayed were created by Fruitilicious Cakes. The bride wore the ‘Mandy’ gown by Milla Nova, also provided by Toujours Bridal.
The ladies then step into the ceremony space, the Grand and picturesque courtyard. With its soaring, palatial 50-foot ceiling, historic limestone walls, and its iconic David Bierk artwork, The Courtyard is the ultimate gala ballroom-an expansive oasis of elegance and grace. This space has a rich history of its own, having lived for decades as the city of Toronto’s select setting for high-profile events, distinguished celebrations, corporate gatherings, and charitable initiatives. Its wrought iron gates have welcomed heads of state, national leaders, and stars of stage and screen. Vividly grand, and unquestionably iconic, The Courtyard provides the perfect backdrop for unforgettable occasions; its atmosphere is designed to enchant guests, stir the imagination, and give form to lifelong memories. Marquee Letters Toronto provided the unique boxwood hedge backdrop adorned with florals by Lena's Floral Designs, along with additional over-the-top colorful florals flanking the aisle. The bride’s showstopping final gown, the 'Florina', featuring endless organza ruffles is also designed by Milla Nova and provided by Toujours Bridal.
Finally, no detail was spared when designing the reception tablescape, featuring bold, period-inspired patterns, bright spring colors, and layers of texture. Atop textured linen, provided by Linen Closet, sit opulent place settings, including flatware, plateware, and glassware provided by Plate Occasions. The French court-inspired stationery was provided by Polka Dot Paper Shop and added the perfect touch of luxury to the tablescape. Vintage gold chairs were provided by Glamourous Affairs Inc, along with the show shopping patio parasol, dripping in florals by Lena's Floral Designs. This shoot was nothing short of a dream come true, fit for a queen.
