Fun Engagement BBQ: Laid-back Celebration Ideas

Rustic wedding invitation with bandana and cowboy boots

Kim of Petal Pixie found that the engagement announcement has become somewhat of past tradition - and is low on the priority list when you become engaged.  She wanted put together an example of a fun filled day that would be easy for any couple to put together, and bring back the art of announcing the engagement.
And what is easier than a country BBQ? BBQs are fun, laid back, and usually stress free. They are a time when friends and family can relax and have fun getting to know each other. With a tasty and easy  menu, diy table runner and scrumptious desserts, you really can't go wrong having a backyard BBQ. The perfect way to celebrate your engagement. Petal Pixie set up hay barrels with a few odds and ends to greet guests - mason jar filled with florals, barrel of  sodas, place colorful bandanas and cutlery in mason jars for guests to grab before enjoying their meal. Spinach salad, sweet corn, baked beans and pull pork sliders with coleslaw. Yum yum!

From Petal Pixie I wanted the table decor to be laid back and casual so I used a wood farm table and created a no sew bandanna runner for a pop of color.  I wanted to serve the food family style so I kept the floral arrangements fairly simple with a color scheme of red and yellow so I didn't compete with the color of the bandanna or the yummy food.  I wanted the flowers to be country and to me nothing says country like big happy sunflowers.  I used them on each plate setting for a bright colorful accent along with the adorable "about him/her" paper detail which gives the guest some added information about the couple they might not have known.  Stay tuned for a DIY on how to create the super cute Bandana Runner you see below. Really does add that festive touch to your backyard bbq.
