Bright and Bold Rollerskating Alt Bride Inspiration
Imagine a bride and her bestie lacing up their roller skates and heading to the beach. We ditched the rulebook for this shoot, creating a seaside adventure for rebel girls. Set among bright beach huts and pine trails in Bournemouth, England, this was an afternoon full of fun, color, and friendship. Designed to inspire rule-breakers and color lovers - stand by for skating along the promenade and an epic cake smash!

Blue and yellow velvet skates were the original inspiration for the shoot, setting a playful tone and the offbeat color palette the whole team worked with. Dressmaker Zaneta Burnett Design created incredible pieces for the bride and bridesmaid in these two daring shades. Think layers of dreamy tulle made with movement in mind.
The bride’s blue tulle separates (and cheeky matching frilly knickers) were inspired by ocean waves, with surface texture and top stitching around the bust and waist and lots of volume for a cascade effect. For the bridesmaid’s yellow skirt, sand ripples and dunes were the muses. A more organic look was achieved through folding, hand stitching and boiling the fabric. The skirt was embellished with pearl beads and worn over the model’s own velvet two-piece.
sustainable accessories from To Be Adorned
To complement both outfits, we leant into the more is more vibe with bold sustainable accessories from designer and shoot organizer To Be Adorned. A blue garter and yellow veiled headpiece kept things wonderfully non-traditional. Add a hot pink choker and statement earrings made with tassels and up-cycled beads, and you’ve got fun pieces that can be worn for the big day and beyond. The bridesmaid also wore a slow fashion scrunchie by Studio Zipcode. Beth Fox's beautifully subtle makeup with modern color flashes completed the looks.
offbeat bride & a knockout bouquet
Grabbing any opportunity to cram in even more color, we made sure our offbeat bride had a knockout bouquet. The florals for this shoot were nothing but zingy and bright. Keeping with the playful theme and tying in with her ethos, florist Botany & Blossom used British-grown zinnias and dahlias in orange and yellow tones with a flash of blue ribbon around the stems.
Color Pops & Cake
A color pop woven fan from La Basketry made the perfect alternative bouquet and keepsake for the bridesmaid. Imaginative baker Gerastan Bakehouse created some buttercream magic. The shoot had a fun retro aesthetic, so for the cake we decided on kitsch 70s style with a touch of Marie Antoinette decadence. This was accomplished using the Lambeth Method of "over piping" buttercream to create frilly and flouncy decoration. This style is having a real revival at the moment and it felt like a perfect fit!
Every swish of tulle, fit of giggles and spin along the promenade was expertly captured by photographer Katherine And Her Camera and videographer Stephanie Beken.
Katherine shared:
“I loved this theme and really wanted to make sure that the photos showed the fun, playful aspect that this shoot epitomized. I especially wanted the glorious vibrant colors of the outfits, make-up and cake to take centre stage. We had lovely soft light the evening of the shoot which I love for warm, atmospheric images. I played around with composition of the bridge and beach huts to add another layer of interest to the images - I'm always on the lookout for a new angle!”
Stephanie was determined to have fun with this shoot, matching the loud and vibrant concept and details. She went with an editorial feel for her film and used a song that has a bit of power in it. The mix of retro content with a modern finish worked well! So many bold, creative ideas to inspire seaside-loving couples.
