This candlelight inspired shoot features the best of Black Tie meets Black Velvet luxury with a Fine Art approach. A collaborative design and planning from Rachel Willis Events and Kelsey Williams Weddings + Events, our goal was to create the perfect marriage of high-end, finely detailed, formal wedding design with a uniquely deep, rich, and bespoke palette. Shades of rust, copper, cinnamon, and amber were offset by rich mahogany and black accents. Our ethereal bride stuns in a Tony Ward gown retailed by Stanley Korshak bridal, and smoldering groom dons a Black Velvet Tuxedo from Stitch & Tie. Her shoes with painted floral details are the first nod to the theme.
Our formal head tablescape was completed with rich place settings including almond-shaded Amalfi charger and dinner plate, black porcelain salad plate and b&b plate, gunmetal rimmed glassware and copper flatware provided by Top Tier Event Rentals. Black shantung napkins were the perfect base for Everything Smitten's coordinating menu cards, and place tags accented with a custom, copper wax seal. Root + Bloom's lush, textural floral arrangements were the perfect blend of formal and natural, set in copper compotes of varying heights to give the effect of continuous depth and dimension.
In the ballroom, our cake designed by xo cakery served as a focal point and living art display. The prominently featured cake with intricately designed wafer paper peonies, anemones, and other textured florals appears to be floating in the air, perfectly set in a frame, reminiscent of a still-life painting. Adorned with climbing florals, this element is one of the cornerstones of this design. The black velvet sofa with amber ghost chairs from Bella Acento are the epitome of luxury lounging, and Root + Bloom's over-the-top floral installment make it even more striking.
