Dia de Muertos Wedding: Celebrating Love, Family, and Tradition

Dia de los Muertos bride in a stunning, dark wedding dress

When two people fall in love, they have found their other half or their equal. A marriage between these two equal souls brings their families together in a celebration of that love and their future. Today's post, sponsored by Love Bird Bridal Shop, takes this classic wedding story and weaves in Dia de Muertos traditions.

El Dia de los Muertos, or Dia de Muertos, brings family together for a traditional celebration, so it felt like the perfect inspiration for a wedding shoot. The celebration has so many beautiful, traditional components that inspired us for this shoot, including an ofrenda, or offering to loved ones who have passed. This inspired the beautiful collection of flowers, lanterns, candles, fruit, and objects you see throughout these images.

The other piece that we found very inspirational was the makeup often worn on Dia de Muertos. The purpose of this makeup is to illustrate that we are all equal in death. Similarly, we are all equal in love, a message that is always conveyed during wedding ceremonies.

These images were focused on a tradition rooted in family, honoring lost loved ones, and celebrating love, just as we do during weddings. This styled shoot was created by women who took their own beliefs and understanding of Dia de los Muertos, along with their love of weddings, to create a look that merges both the living and spirit world on such a life-changing, love-filled occasion...a wedding.
