Baby Its Cold Outside Fire and Ice has been a vision of mine for a very long time. I wanted to intertwine new world with old to create a beautiful space for a wedding. With the rich textures of fur, leather, wood and embroidery and the use of jewel tones and metallic, we were able to create a romantic and warm atmosphere in the snow.
The shoot took place at Mt. Hood Bed & Breakfast in Hood River, Oregon. The location is nestled high in the beauty and majesty of the upper Hood River Valley, surrounded by Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams and Mt. Rainier. Mt. Hood Bed & Breakfast provided the perfect setting for our winter fire & Ice shoot. On the day of the shoot, our crew and amazing models, along with their furry companions, braved three feet of snow to capture incredible and breathtaking shots. Though not an easy journey, with a large wood table, the end product made it all worth it!
Floral & Ice Using the snow and climate to our advantage, we were able to use a few techniques that were very unique. One of the most incredible features on this shoot were the floral installations suspended in ice. This beautiful technique was used by Bramble Floral to create pieces for decoration and the sweetheart table.
The Couple The Models, Demi (the bride) and Travis (the groom), are a real couple and absolutely adorable together! Having been married just the summer before at Mt. Hood Bed & Breakfast, this shoot was really like a wedding day homecoming for the couple! Demi has shown competitively around the country, competing at the most prestigious horse show in the world for Saddleseat riders; The World’s Championship Horse Show. She has also trained, professionally groomed, and rehabilitated dozens of horses in her hometown of Pleasant Hill, Oregon.
Today Demi and her husband Travis own two retired champion horses and one up and coming show horse. Their familiarity and comfort level with the horses really comes through in the photos and made for amazing shots on and off the horses.
Horse 'doeuvres
Along with the bouquets suspended in ice, we added complimentary flowers to the horses’ bridles. We did not think about the fact that the horses would be able to see and smell the vibrant flowers. As the season doesn’t lend itself typically to fresh foliage, the fresh flowers were very tempting for them.
One of my favorite memories from the shoot was when we were setting a shot and our gorgeous white horse leaned over and ate the floral work off the paint horse’s bridle. The floral work was replaced for the next shot, however it did seem lead to a happier horse.
