Dress—check, venue—check, glowy skin? Check! As a skin therapist, brides-to-be come to me for help when wanting to achieve the healthy and youthful looking-skin they always envisioned having on their wedding day. Perfecting a bride's canvas takes just as much time and dedication as planning the big day, here are a couple of my tips that will have you glowing on your wedding day.
When helping brides enhance their glow on their special day, my biggest tip is to start with a reliable skincare routine they can religiously practice every day in advance of their wedding. That means cleansing, toning, and moisturizing! Following a method and being consistent will improve the look of your skin. Consider hyaluronic acid, Vitamin C, Retinol, Vitamin E, Peptides, and Glycerin as part of your wedding party; have them be a part of your life every day leading up to the wedding. These clean ingredients will help you achieve healthy-looking skin.
PSA: Don't forget the sunscreen! Remember when mom used to tell you to put on sunscreen even if you were not going to be basking in the sun? That is because sunscreen is not just for the safety of our skin, but it also comes as a great anti-aging regimen, it shields your skin from developing signs of aging, such as wrinkles and fine lines.
Three months before the wedding, I like to have clients come in for peels, treatments, and facials. Skin takes 28 days to cycle through and recover, so brides have to rest their skin every peek. Treatments tend to pull out impurities, which in the long run is what brides want, but it can also result in breakouts and redness in the days or even weeks after treatment. Strive to have your last treatment at least a month before the big day.
Not only do you need to get rid of dead skin and build up in the face, but parts of your body as well, such as your back, arms, and legs. I recommend getting body massages or scrubs to help with blood flow, circulation, and the elimination of dead skin for a more youthful look.
Considering some spas are still closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, brides have to resort to doing DIY at-home exfoliating treatments. You can exfoliate at home by creating sugar scrub. All you need is a mixture of sugar and oils, such as almond oil, coconut oil, castor oil, etc. Then get an exfoliating brush or mitt to run the scrub throughout your body, rinse, then rub oil for a more glowy and moisturized appearance. Another tip is to incorporate Vitamin C, tea tree oil, & eucalyptus body wash in your shower routine to help get rid of any pesky body acne.
Drink Water. It will not only improve your health, but it amps up the hydration for the skin. It would help if you also started drinking tea to help with digestion and help relieve toxins in the body and improve your gut health. Many don't realize that healthy-looking skin starts with your gut. I tell clients to drink green, ginger, cinnamon, and peppermint tea, all rich in antioxidants and have many healing benefits as well.
Eat a diet high in fruits and veggies, especially in the months leading up to your big day. Eating a healthy diet with food full of rich vitamins and minerals is essential to achieve glowing skin.
Avoid neglecting your skin and waiting until the last minute to start prepping it for your big day. As much as we wish it could happen, achieving healthy-looking skin does not happen overnight; it takes time and dedication.
