Keeping Yourself Grounded

From the Bride: Brian and I have a very sweet, silly relationship that we wanted to make sure was brought to life at our wedding. Everything from the venue, to the decor, the decision to have my step dad officiate the wedding, and down to our first dance song were chosen to make that a reality.

Most important to me, I got quiet time with the people that I knew I'd be most emotional around. My Dad, my twin brothers, my step dad, my mom. Brian. Had I not gotten those private moments, to ground myself in what the day was really about, I truly believe I would not have been as present as I was that day.

Handmade Ceremony

So many unique details, I think. But the most special to me was the completely personalized ceremony that my step dad wrote, along with our handwritten vows. I am so proud of every word and feeling expressed in that ceremony and think it was the perfect way to send us off into married life.

Unapologetic Decision Making

Make decisions and don't second guess. The guest list is a critical example. Start planning it early with your fiance, and be unapologetic once invites go out. Depending on how you want your day to be, your guest list could be very different.

Our day was so special because every single person that was there had a special hand in supporting our relationship. Everyone there knew and spent time with both of us. There were no second cousins or distant relatives, and we did not invite any children. Some folks were upset at first, but on the day of the wedding every one acknowledged what a special and intimate wedding it was.
