Ring: Titanium Men's Wedding Band With Dinosaur Bone, Gibeon Meteorite, and Whisky Barrel Wood Sleeve
It’s been 18 years since the first Jurassic Park came out (a whole human adult years of time, WOW), but aren’t we all still just as obsessed with dinosaurs as we were then? I mean, if I’m flipping through channels and stumble upon a sniff of that iconic music, I can’t turn it off, and I don’t think I’m really alone in that confession. Am I? Well, in the last few years, dinosaurs have become total fixtures in the world of “I Do.” Couples have been incorporating dinosaur figurines and likeness into their cake designs, their tablescapes, their invites and day-of decor, their first look humor, and their epic photography - and thanks to Jewelry by Johan, the artisanal jewelry brand featuring some of the Earth’s most-naturally beautiful, unique elements in their designs, we’ve dug up one more way for dino-philes to weave some reptilian realness into their big day 🦖🦕.
Jewelry by Johan has a serious knack for mixing and matching and customization. So, whether you’re looking for a completely bespoke wedding band, engagement ring, or want to add a personal twist to a ring style that the brand already offers (or that you found elsewhere), you can rest assured knowing that the in-house designers at JBJ will bring ALL of your wedding jewelry dreams to life - if it's dinosaurs you're hunting, they've got you!
It’s not fossilized insects in amber, though, that they’re working with. The Jewelry by Johan team doesn’t craft any of their dinosaur bone jewelry using whole or partial skeletal remains of dinosaurs you’d see in a museum; rather, they use gembone, one of the rarest gemstones out there. Sometimes referred to as mineralized dinosaur bone, silicified dinosaur bone and agatized fossil, these specimens can be traced back to dinosaurs that roamed the Earth around 150 million years ago, during the late Jurassic Age. And we’re blown away by that tbh - to be exchanging vows in 2021 or beyond, with rings featuring relics of our prehistoric past??! I mean, it's too cool.
Ring: White Gold Wedding Band With Meteorite and Dinosaur Bone (Right)
Until it is cut and polished, the true beauty of gembone IRL isn't very apparent. The aesthetic of the dino bone is contingent upon the combination of minerals present when the fossilized bone formed, which is what makes each piece so unique and inimitable. Once Jewelry by Johan runs out of a color in stock, the chances of them getting the same color again is very unlikely. But on the bright side, this means that your dinosaur bone ring is genuinely one-of-a-kind!
Jewelry by Johan sources their gembone, ethically and responsibly, from multiple suppliers who excavate it from the Morrison Formation in Utah, which covers 600,000 square miles over several states (and according to the brand, the stunningly-colored, patterned, and gem-grade-particular gembone is almost only found in the Four Corners region of the Colorado Plateau in the USA (where the states of Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado meet). Because of the unique and rare nuances found in these fossils, plus the very slim odds of a dinosaur bone not only becoming a fossil, but also being fossilized with gem quality minerals, gembones have earned recognition as the "World's Greatest Treasure.” Who wouldn’t want a complement like that to match their own “greatest treasure?” The love of their life and a cherished relationship for the ages, that is.
