To quote one of our Wedding Chicks vendors (and an amazing wedding planning team), “Eloping is the new wedding.” It’s a bold statement, but, then again, here we are nearly 4+ months into a global pandemic with a still unclear vision for the future [just a hope for a resolution]. Many couples have postponed their spring, summer, fall, and even winter weddings for dates next year, but others have taken/are taking a road that - historically - has been less traveled: opting to scale back the size of their celebrations for much more intimate affairs be they a microwedding (usually 50 or less guests in attendance), a minimony (more recent vernacular to describe a commitment ceremony witnessed by only a few loved ones or just the couple themselves, followed by a bigger fete at a later time), or a straight-up elopement (which used to be a bit more spontaneous and impromptu, but has become more nuanced in the age of coronavirus).
Pretty sure we’ve said it a couple times before, when talking about the highlights of epic engagement or wedding photos, but the Pacific Northwest is famous for making adventurous, wanderlusty weddings a thing (and they are, really, they are). A couple in edgy, getting-married ensembles, exchanging vows on the edge of a cliff; first kisses shared on the shore between a barefoot bride and groom; champagne bottles popping on desert dunes on behalf of a boho-clad pair of soulmates. You’ve seen them before, the photos of unconventional, winnowed-down weddings that feature a beautiful couple making the biggest commitment they can to each other, in a stunning setting, alone or in the company of an edited group of guests. And they stick with you, right? Well, now that COVID has done its worst (🙏🙏🙏), brides and grooms are still making the best of the situation with weddings that may not look like their OG plan, but that get the job done just as well (maybe evennn better!)

Of course, since the virus took hold of the globe, wedding professionals everywhere have been pivoting, refining their talents, and getting creative to 1) keep wedding dreams alive for every engaged client out there and 2) keep their small businesses afloat - and they’re totally killing it BTW #weddingpeoplemakeitwork. That said, there are vendors who have been in the business of petite weddings since day 1, so, with this change in events (in multiple senses of the word), they haven’t missed a beat.
Whether you’re looking for an elopement planner or photographer or want to collab with a creative who shines in the micro-wedding arena, you can rest assured that these beautiful humans will bring their A-game to your special day.
Again, you don’t have to use a small-event savvy squad for your intimate wedding, we’re just saying, these guys and gals know exactly what kind of magic’s needed for these niche nuptials. Visit our vendor guide and inspiration pages to see what wedding pros are in your neck of the woods!
