Step 1: Assemble Your Supplies. For this project, you will need:
Step 2: Draw or trace larger heart onto paper. Carefully cut heart template. (We folded the paper in half to ensure that both sides were symmetrical.)
Step 3: Safety pin paper template to felt and cut around template. Repeat, creating two identical hearts. (If using optional freezer paper, adhere paper waxy-side down with iron on medium heat. Trace heart shape onto freezer paper and cut.)
Step 4: Repeat steps 2 and 3 with smaller heart.
Step 5: Using fabric glue, attach smaller heart to larger heart. Repeat with other cutout hearts.
Step 6: Attach embellishments using fabric glue. For studded earings and brads, attach by piercing felt with a craft knife and then inserting stud or brad.
Step 7: Create a loop by folding a ribbon in half and glue on the inside of one of the hearts. Using embroidery floss, stitch around the outer edges of the heart, leaving room to insert stuffing.
Step 8: Stuff pillow and finish stitching.
Step 9: Wrap ribbon around lollipop sticks and adhere with fabric glue. Use embroidery floss to tie sticks together.
Step 10: Hang heart on sticks. Carefully insert into cake.
Note: Before creating your felt heart cake topper, be sure you know the dimensions of the top tier so you can determine how big your heart should be as well as how far apart the supports should be.
