So, what’s that saying - all good things come in threes? Well, we’re just waiting on a third, because this adorable new trend is taking over Instagram and pretty much tailor-made for the wedding world.
We have the recently-engaged John Stamos and celebrity wedding planner, Michael Russo, to thank for illuminating the I-Do industry’s newest muse: illustrations that perfectly capture the love and excitement surrounding a proposal and the start of forever with that special someone.
Fuller House’s Greek god, J.Stamos, shared some amazing news on Sunday night, that he and his model+actress GF, Caitlin McHugh, were engaged and embarking on their next chapter together. Truly, a moment that could only spring out of the scrolls of a story book… or straight out of Disneyland (which it did).
Beside a brilliantly-colorful and chic cartoon illustration of the pair in front of Sleeping Beauty’s castle, the HAVE-MERCY mister wrote “I asked… she said yes! And we lived happily ever after” and signed with an ever-appropriate diamond ring emoji, as one does when just-engaged.

Only a few days before he made it official, single-handedly shattering the hearts of every woman who held out hope she’d steal his bachelorhood, @mikierusso posted a similarly-sweet illustrated picture.
Featuring his soon-to-be bride and groom and ABC’s DWTS duo, Emma Slater and Sasha Farber, the ah-dorable artwork paid tribute to their live proposal, which happened last October. Mikie captioned the photo by saying “Beyond obsessed with this #artwork of the moment @sashafarber1 #proposed to @theemmaslater #live on @dancingabc - my creative juices are flowing.” They really are the cutest and have dancing to thank for their amazing relationship!

Though the sketches bear similarities to old-school caricatures, these hand-drawn illustrations are much more high-brow, couture and fashion-forward. Something that you can totally envision framing and hanging up next to a real wedding photo one day in the future.
We loveeeee the idea of taking your engagement photos and having an artist create a carefully-composed, vivid vignette of the cherished occasion. We also think that illustrations can serve as the perfect gifts for a bride to give her groom or vice versa. It’s as easy as commissioning an illustrator for the morning, while the bride gets ready - primping, prepping and stepping into her gorgeous gown.

Guys, we’re pretty sure that if you enlisted someone to help your Mrs.-to-be make a memory with a fashion sketch of her in her gown - she’d love you forever…. For reals. Remember when we shared the idea of having your gown transformed into a timeless work of art?
Or, take things a step further and keep the artist on tap for the wedding itself. Weddings are all about the experience, these days, and what could be a better than having someone stationed at your wedding reception or even during cocktail hour. Guests can stop by for a 7-10 minute live sketch of them in their fanciest ensems, with their S.O.’s standing beside them.
We caught up with one of our favorite calligraphers and fashion illustrators, Eliza Gwendalyn, who has recently expanded her repertoire to include on-site, live sketches for events like weddings, bridal showers, bachelorette parties. At the end of the day, she couldn’t say more encouraging things about the trend and its effect on guests.
“On-site illustration is like a phenomenon,” she explained. “For guests, it’s mesmerizing to see an artist create something so special in a matter of minutes. Something handmade and heartfelt, it’s definitely magical.”
We couldn't agree more - custom artwork is kind of the best idea for keepsake favors, right??!?
Anyway, we could imagine infinite possibilities, but we’ll stop there and let you keep dreaming!
