How to Have a Cozy Beautiful At-Home Elopement

Bride and groom smiling on brick steps of their home

There really is no place like home, which is why we love this idea of a romantic at-home elopement with just your nearest and dearest in attendance. Miranda Crace from Spoke Events and a talented team of creatives beautifully showcased this unique and attainable option for couples in the Detroit area and beyond.

The cozy and inviting atmosphere of the historic Corktown Home featured gorgeous brick walls and loads of old city charm. With foraged florals and a few heartfelt details, you too can have a beautiful elopement in the comfort of your home. at-home elopement in detroit

From Miranda Crace of Spoke Events: For this styled shoot, we wanted to create and share something that truly had purpose. We want everyone to look at these images and see themselves. We are proud of our city and all it has to offer. Many of the couples we work with see weddings in magazines that are just unattainable in this area. Our couples want a mountain top moment with all the comforts of home. As wedding professionals in Detroit, we can’t give them that, but we can help them create grandeur in our own backyards. That’s where the concept for our at-home elopement came from.

The Corktown Home, just a few years ago was a house in disrepair. Today it has been renovated and now hosts guests from all over the world to come experience the city first hand. We thought it was the perfect space to showcase the beauty in what can seem mundane, like your living room. The flowers were mostly foraged in and around Detroit. A few select blooms were brought in from Seattle, but all of the foliage and most flowers are home grown.

Classic style with modern details

1701 Bespoke and Detroit Bridal House provided the bride and groom’s look. Detroit has a rich history, so we wanted to throw back to that with classic styles and materials, like the groom’s three piece suit and the crocheted lace on the gown. But Detroit is a modern city, so we chose updated details like the gown’s cut-outs, the felt hat our groom sported and the raw stone jewelry from Pebble and Stone. The paper goods were a three-part team with Cordial Punch Press, Calligraphy Quill and Forevermore Photography and Design.

Finding beauty in your everyday life

This shoot has been something Cassie of Northern Native Photography, Fatima of Studio Terrain and I have been dreaming of for a long time. We are so thrilled to share it with you and hope you find it as warm, inviting and magical as we do. We set out to bring the past, present and future of Detroit into one house. To showcase it in a way that was realistic for couples and could inspire them to find the beauty in their everyday lives and bring that magic on home.
