New York City Elopement

From Anna + Mateo: While we are lovers of everything wedding, elopements are so unique because the focus is solely on the couple and their love, and we think there's nothing more romantic than an adventurous couple, celebrating their relationship through an elopement amidst all of the hustle-and-bustle of New York. Typically, when we think about NYC weddings, we think about elegant ball gowns, sophisticated updos, and grand affairs. As lovers of everything ethereal and soft, we wanted to diverge from the norm and show off another dimension of the city.

Natural and romantic

Inspired by the simple beauty of the "Penelope" gown by BHLDN, we chose to focus on everything natural and romantic. We juxtaposed the soft, elegant details of the embroidered bodice and tulle skirt with the harsher, industrial cityscapes of New York by taking advantage of the natural movement of the tulle skirt and veil in iconic NYC locations: the Brooklyn Bridge and Central Park.

Pretty little details

Highlights of the shoot for us are definitely the painted and letterpress BHLDN vow books, the gorgeous Susie Saltzman pear-shaped halo ring, the "we eloped!" announcement postcards hand lettered by Kara Hill Calligraphy, and the organic feel of the florals by Bahtoh. Watching the various tourists and New Yorkers offer the couple their well wishes was an extra treat!

Sweet moments

We love the couple's emotion and shared, sweet moments captured in the photos and film. An adventurous, love-filled day that starts at the Brooklyn Bridge and ends by exchanging vows at Bethesda Fountain in Central Park?! There's really nothing better than that!
