Bride and groom kissing at tropical beach wedding altar

Katie and Ryan were married a most ethereal modern wedding in Tulum. You'll want to see all of the beautiful photos captured by Button Up PhotographyDiana Romo Weddings planned every detail, Vanessa Jaimes Floral Design created all of the amazing florals and Frame Wedding Film filmed this special day at Nest Tulum. You can see all the images in the full gallery and hear the couple's love story from Katie, the bride.

Ryan gave me the most intimate + romantic proposal I could have imagined. I was working until 8 that night, and he got off early to fill our entire bungalow with candles and roses. When I got home, there was a note on the door that said "come in, I have something to ask you," and when I opened the door he was on one knee surrounded by flowers. It was so beautiful and having that moment as a memory just between the two of us is one of my favorite things.

The wedding planning process was honestly more stressful than we thought - neither of us are big planners in the first place, so trying to predict people and situations in advance was tough! We were SO lucky to have such an amazing team (we love you Diana Romo!!!) that helped us the entire process and made it so much less stressful. As soon as we decided on Nest in Tulum, Diana and her incredible team took over and gave us the most gorgeous wedding ever (in our unbiased opinion, ha)!

On the day of the wedding, we were both SO excited! I think we expected to be a little more nervous than we were, but it was much more of an easy feeling! For the most part, everything was handled for us so all we had to do was show up, get dressed, take a shot (or two) of tequila and get married. It was nice knowing our wedding team and the amazing staff were expertly taking care of every last detail we needed so that we could focus solely on each other and enjoying the best day of our lives!

The reception was pure magic. There was an ethereal beauty to every aspect of the reception. The place settings were so gorgeous and the lighting was so well done that it felt like we were in a movie - it certainly didn't seem like real life! We had the most amazing meal and service - there was never anything we wanted for because we were given anything we needed from special drink orders to touch-ups to cushions for our seats! The after-party was also unreal. It looked like something out of a bridal magazine. The dance floor was unique and well designed, the string lights and disco balls and neon signs lit up the celebration and all the food available was perfect for delicious late-night snacking! We'll always remember basking in the glow of our reception and that magical dinner as well as the above and beyond set up for the after-party.

Katie chose "You've Got a Friend" by James Taylor for her dance with her Dad - it was such a lighthearted pick and since my Dad really is one of my best friends, it was fitting. We have such a lighthearted relationship that none of the heavier songs were seeming to make sense for us, and about a month prior to the wedding this song came on and we knew it was perfect! Ryan chose "I Hope You Dance" by LeAnn Womack for his dance with his Mom - it was a beautiful and super sweet moment! The song is one of Cate, his mom's, favorites and has always made her think of Ryan.

We can't say enough about our teams. The Diana Romo Wedding crew was so professional, kind, and talented. Our photographer Hideki of Button Up Photography was so personable and funny. All of these parts working together was perfect. One of the highlights was taking photos across the street under some beautiful trees Hideki had found. We had just started shooting and were trying to ease up for the photos as Hideki joked with us when Diana's team brought us some tequila shots. A couple of those later and we were all having a great time taking photos, laughing, and enjoying the experience. Now we have great photos and a great memory of the experience.

We did a "mini-moon" in Riviera Maya after the wedding, which was so beautiful. We stayed at Unico and had an amazing time - it was a good chance for us to relax after a weekend filled with family and friends. We had originally planned to do a full honeymoon in Europe this Fall, but life had other plans! We're still hoping to go eventually but are beyond grateful we took a few extra days in Mexico!
