The handcrafted industry is making waves in wedding trends through fashion, floral design, cuisine and throughout all aspects of wedding details with the modern couple. A group of designers and makers decided to come together at a castle in Arkansas to create an inspiration shoot showcasing edgy new styles for those seeking inspiration. Buying local through true artisans in the community you live in is one of the best ways to reduce waste, tout an eco-friendly design aesthetic and contribute to your local economy. As weddings and events continue to focus on social responsibility, creating experiences that focus on quality over quantity is what’s in vogue.
Althea Wiles, with Rose Of Sharon Floral Design Studio, has been an advocate of the slow flowers movement and hand-made design since founding her business over twenty years ago. The slow flowers movement promotes and supports the purchase from United States flower farms. Wiles often uses a mixture of locally-sourced and overseas blooms in an effort to keep her weddings and events as eco-conscious as possible. Not only does this contribute to a reduced carbon footprint, but because flowers grown locally are processed and transported within just a couple days, they are fresher. Wiles can then create something one-of-a-kind and bountiful for her clientele.
Paul Rainwater with Q Clothier is a third generation men’s garment-maker. Last year, he decided to try something a little different. He created a new design for women he calls the men’s shirt dress, custom-tailored to fit a lady’s figure. His stylish suits and tuxedos have made him infamous in his region by providing quality one-on-one service with exquisite fit and function.
Private consultations are becoming all the rage for their personalization as well as safety health measures currently being observed. Being a couture bridal gown designer herself, Tess Mann with Couture by Tess Bridal, was anticipating showcasing her latest collection at this styled shoot. However, because of lace shortages in India where her lace designs are hand-made replicas of her hand-drawn artwork, she brought two other designer gowns from her store in Cookeville, Tennessee to present. Tess has been designing her own collection for many years and even offers alteration services for those brides who select a gown from her trademarked label. She is very discerning about the labels she carries in her boutique and builds personal relationships with the international designers she also carries at her location in addition to her own.
“Luxury fabrics, which are needed to make true haute couture wedding dresses have been so difficult to find. Reasonable quantities are scarce and purchases take forever for completion and screening approval through customs. Therefore as most serious designers would do, I began drawing and sketching my very own lace, embroidery, and beadwork. A designer not only shops for fabrics to make their unique designs a fabulous product to behold, but a true fashion designer puts their heart and soul into making their own fabrics and artwork,” explains Mann.
When it comes to cuisine, architecturally-designed hors d'oeuvres can add an element of glamour to social settings. Vibrant Occasions Catering is owned by a husband and wife chef team that prides themselves on flavorful, fusion foods that taste delicious accented by a charming presentation style. They cater to large or intimate weddings or events and can get very creative with menus, which are often created during their private tastings and according to their clients' desires.
Paying attention to details with more personalization of services and presentation have become the latest trend in curating experiences for guests at weddings and events. Inspiring your senses during the entire process from beginning to execution falls in line with a more intentional method of curation which is what contemporary times are calling for. Working with artists and designers of all niches for your special day certainly reaps satisfying results.
