Til death do us party at this sophisticated Outer Banks disco wedding

til death do us party wedding theme

Choosing your wedding aesthetic can be tough, especially when you're torn between a timeless, elegant wedding and showing off your bold style. This couple, however, proved that you can have the best of both worlds. Bride Clare knew from the get-go that she wanted to incorporate her multifaceted personality into their big day. While the couple’s day jobs consist of a fast-paced environment working on the same labor and delivery hospital unit, they love to let loose when they’re off the clock. From a romantic ceremony with sentimental touches to their all-out dance party of a reception, this wedding at Whalehead - Historic Corolla Park - planned with the help of Coastyle Events and photographed by Kasey Powell Weddings - had it all!

Selecting a sentimental venue

The bride and her family have vacationed in Corolla since she was four years old. When she and the groom were researching venues, her mom suggested looking into the Whalehead Club. The Outer Banks had been the setting for so many childhood memories, that it felt like the perfect opportunity to start a new family together in a place that reminded the bride of her own family and history.

A monochromatic backdrop for nature

After travelling from far and wide, guests - including the bride's lovely 90-year-old grandmother! - were welcomed into the ceremony space by the stunning views of the Currituck Sound. The couple kept the space monochromatic and let the natural landscape do all the work for them, complemented by florals by Honeysuckle Events.

Lighthearted fun and a disco dance floor

With the majority of their guests working in the medical field, the couple wanted to center their reception around something high stress jobs don’t experience often: lighthearted fun. With disco balls lining the dancefloor, bright pink florals, and syringes infused with cocktails, the bride and groom definitely provided their fellow colleagues with a space to relax and let loose!

Prescribing fun through medical details

Because the bride and groom met while working on the same Labor and Delivery unit, it was natural for them to incorporate some medical details into their wedding day. They named their signature drinks after medical terms and even served Jello shots out of syringes. Their tagline became, "Voted 2023's Safest Wedding to Go into Labor," and ironically, the maid of honor was going to be close to 30 weeks pregnant at the wedding!

Advice from one bride to another

Bride Clair shared: "My biggest advice is to choose vendors that take the time to get to know you and your partner, and who understand what it is that YOU want most for your wedding. Not only is it helpful in the beginning when you’re trying to figure out exactly what that is, but it makes all the difference on the wedding day itself. I met with a few vendors in the beginning that were nice and seemed to do a beautiful job, but a big part of why I chose the individuals I did is that I felt like they understood me and my partner as people, and not just as an aesthetic. Having those strong relationships eased so much stress throughout the whole planning process!"
