Chloe and Jake's love story started 8 years ago when they met through mutual friends and knew there was something special there. Jake will be the first to tell you that it was love at first sight; for Chloe, however, she will swear that she fell more in love with Jake the deeper she got to know him. Jake proposed by setting up flower petals and candles all the way from the front of their home to the back where he was standing waiting for Chloe. He arranged for one their best friends - a professional photographer - to take photos, and had a platter of snacks and wine waiting. They ate, drank, and cried before video calling all of their friends and family later that night to share the news. Their wedding day - captured by Shelley of Ivy Road Photography and with a story told on film by Dandi Films - ultimately felt like magic and was an absolute dream come true.

Did you choose your venue before getting engaged, too?

Jake and Chloe always knew they wanted to have a destination wedding, and every single one of their guests travelled from all over Australia to attend. Being originally from New South Wales, it was a special homage to Jake to be married there. Back in 2019 (yes, before they were even engaged!), they stumbled across photos of the venue, Fig Tree Restaurant, and they both fell in love with the space. After Jake proposed, Byron Bay Weddings held their annual wedding fair, and before they knew it, Jake and Chloe were on a plane travelling from Melbourne to Byron Bay to confirm that Fig Tree Restaurant was still their top choice. Walking up the palm tree-lined driveway, they were in awe. That day, they booked their dream venue for November 2022.

A destination wedding calls for local assistance

Their overall design concept for the day was classical, elegant, timeless, and romantic. They loved the romantic feel of a European theme, so "Europe Weddings" on Pinterest was their go-to wedding inspo. So much of their wedding, also, was custom, and their suppliers helped make Jake and Chloe's vision come to life. The amazing Zoe from The Wedding Shed helped with the design and style of the wedding. She was able to source items and create mood boards so Chloe could see it all come to life. Maddie from Byron Bay Weddings was their planner, and it made the entire experience that much more enjoyable. Being a destination wedding, it meant that Chloe could only visit the venue a few times before the big day. Maddie knew all of their supplies, the venue like the back of her hand, and the owners of Fig Tree Restaurant. Having her was a game-changer for the entire wedding process!

Two custom dresses are better than one

Bride Chloe really wanted to wear a beautiful full-skirt gown and stunning fitted lace gown - so she decided to have both! She had both gowns custom-made and personalized to suit her. Her ceremony dress, in particular, was by Mariana Hardwick, while her reception dress was from Brides of Armadale. Chole rocked gorgeous satin pointed Badgley Mischka "Cher" heels with a crystal embellishment. Her makeup was on the minimal side and inspired by soft glam, which the girls at Alex Ouston Beauty pulled off impeccably. She opted for her hair down, while her bridesmaids had sleek buns with curled front pieces courtesy of Anita Bauer Hair.

Jewelry is the perfect "something"

The bride's jewelry was subtle, simple, and meaningful, which filled out her "something old, new, borrowed, and blue." Her "something old" were the pearl earrings her mom gifted to her; her "something new" was her pendant necklace that Jack had Unique Diamonds Australia (who also made their wedding bands) make for her; her "something borrowed" was her grandma's wedding ring; and her "something blue" was her great grandmother's emerald ring.

How to dress your bridesmen

The wedding party looked just as sophisticated and the bride and groom themselves. The boys all wore custom Dyonsu suits, while the girls wore Shona Joy dresses in ivory paired with a Billini heel. The bride had a "bridesman" who donned a suit custom-made to tie in seamlessly with the girls' ivory dresses. It could not have been a better color match!

A really great emcee makes the day effortless

Mikarla from Wilderness Flowers created a white and green leafy dream. She was so thorough that she even popped in on the wedding morning and gave Chloe and her bridal party advice on how to carry our stunning bouquets! Signed by Shaun created the couple's custom seating chart, custom silk sign, and personalized menus, while Alex from One Mimosa Please hand-painted fans for all of the guests that read "The Mitchells" in blue font. Celebrant and emcee Andrew Michael made everything feel so easy and guided the couple through the day effortlessly!

Rent a famous getaway car!

For Chloe and Jake, there were little "pinch me" moments that occurred throughout the entire day. The most memorable moment of the day for Chloe was walking down the aisle to Jake and seeing his face when he saw her. She will be the first to tell you that nothing quite prepares you for those butterflies! The transport from May the EK (the famous pink car) was especially memorable, but the couple truly loved having all of their favorite people there with them. It's hard for them to pick just one favorite moment, from their bridal party, to listening to their dads' speeches, to dancing the night away - it really was the best day of their lives!

Photo booths: An easy way to capture candids

It wouldn't have been a wedding without a little bit of fun woven in. Marina Machado Cakes custom-made the wedding cake incorporating a subtle texture and delicate leaves that tied in seamlessly with the rest of wedding. Jake and Chloe also hired the lovely Christina with Flossy Cart serving our guests raspberry and rosewater, as well as juicy watermelon fairy floss during cocktail hour that paired perfectly with their selected drinks. After everything was said and done, if bride Chloe could recommend anything to future brides and grooms, it would be to have a photo booth. Open Booths was the perfect, memorable "extra" for their special day, and guests got to take home copies of their photos, while the bride and groom received a copy of every photo too! It was the perfect way to remember "I do."
