This couple played rock-paper-scissors during their vows in Telluride
Joelys and Steven first met while playing on the same adult kickball league in Miami. Joelys stole Steven's position after he had to miss a game because of work, and she used it as a way to get to know and talk to him. In her own words, “My first reaction [to meeting Steven] was a simple ‘Oh, there you are!’ I knew he was going to change my entire life." Their first date was a Cinco de Mayo tequila bar crawl in Miami where they both instantly recognized they had a connection, and the rest is history!

The proposal was as special and intimate as their wedding day was
Steven was planning to propose during a romantic evening on the beach in March 2020, but COVID had other plans for them, and Steven had to get creative. In June, he enlisted Joelys’s family to help with a new plan. While he took Joelys to the beach, they set up a special scene in the living room of her childhood home. He surprised her when they returned from the beach, surrounded by her family, which brought her so much happiness during that difficult time.
The couple said goodbye to sunny, sandy weather, instead choosing chilly, snowy vibes
When the couple began planning their wedding, they knew that a big, showy event just wasn’t for them. Instead, they wanted an intimate day spent exploring somewhere new in the snow - something they don’t often get to experience living in Florida! On their actual wedding day, Joelys and Steven spent a slow, snowy morning getting ready at their rental home in Telluride. After snowing all night, the clouds parted and gave them a crystal clear, blue-sky day!
Every part of the day was theirs, from rock-paper-scissors vows to a sunset gondola ride
Before braving the below-freezing temps, the bride and groom shared a touching first look in the backyard of their rental before hopping in a car and heading up the mountain. Steven and Joelys exchanged vows on top of a frozen lake, complete with "Rock, Paper, Scissors" to see who went first, and a celebratory dance! The newlyweds spent the rest of the day exploring scenic areas around Telluride, popping a bottle of bubbly, warming up with some mid-day brews, and watching the sunset at 10,500 feet after a scenic gondola ride.
