10 Cake Toppers That Will Stand the Test of Time

Okay, guys, we’ve covered our fair share of sweet+sentimental wedding stories over here… Remember the bride who wore her grandmother’s vintage wedding dress? Or the bride who was surprised by a letter written from her late father? There aren’t enough tissues in the world to keep our tears at bay… #ThisIsUsmomentsforever.

Well, we’re going to add to those today, with a story that didn’t exactly have us balling, but instead had us feeling super hopeful and happy. According to USA Today, Frank and Catherine Wick, who married in 1940, celebrated their nuptials by cutting a cake adorned with the most delightful topper. And following their wedding, the topper was passed down for over 78 years, playing a part in 8 family weddings within that time.

The foot-tall topper features a miniature bride and groom standing on a base embellished with frilly ribbons and silk flowers - and like a true vintage vision, a wedding bell hangs over their heads.

While it has seen some updates by way of new lace and ribbons over the years, the topper has truly stood the test of time. Whether it’s because the bride and groom, and their delicately painted faces, represent all of us, or because everyone who used it understood the meaning behind the memoir, the topper is ageless and everlasting - a hope for the relationship and love story that follows.

The topper has its home in the attic of its second bride and groom pair, Betty and Jim Kasdorf, and it’s kept safe and sound in a white plastic bucket registered with the names of all its couples on top. How sweet!
