It may seem like having a wedding and living sustainably are mutually exclusive, but this gorgeous tented wedding in South Carolina proves that you can have your wedding cake and eat it too! Opting for sustainable decor can go a long way. One of the best ways to limit waste is talking to your florist about live arrangements that can be used again after the wedding for years to come! From biodegradable escort cards made from Georgia peaches to live potted centerpieces, this couple was able to have the elegant wedding of their dreams without having to compromise on their ethics.

Britt Wood understood the couple's vision completely and worked as many living arrangements into their floral design as possible. Our favorite has to be the towering Fiddle-leaf fig trees! Montage Palmetto Bluff is a stunning venue with a large outdoor space that was perfect for the couple's tented reception. Having an open-air venue saves energy by eliminating the need to heat or cool a large indoor space. You can tell, in these lovely photos by Davy Whitener, that everyone was having a great time! Despite being skeptical of dating apps, I went ahead and gave it a shot. Our first date was at Atlanta’s hotspot, Superica, and we hit it off immediately. Fast forward three years, we were on a casual weekend walk, as we normally do. Little did I know, my brother was hiding in the bushes about to take photos of the proposal! In the middle of a favorite trail, Griffin dropped to one knee and popped the question. As I started wedding planning, I was very lucky that COVID-19 didn't impact it too much. In fact, I felt guilty about it as I've had so many friends with the worst luck rescheduling their weddings! Our planning was only eight months long, and a breeze in comparison.

We’ve always heard remarkable things about Montage Palmetto Bluff. Griffin and I both grew up going to Hilton Head, about a half-hour away from Palmetto Bluff. Once we took a tour, nothing else compared to this wedding venue! For the decor and color scheme, I wanted mainly greenery, such as ferns and other plants local to the area. In fact, I consider myself neutral when it comes to colors. Griffin jokes that my favorite color is black. So I stuck with neutral colors that wouldn't compete with the natural beauty of South Carolina's low country. Rattan and plants did the trick perfectly!

To personalize the wedding, I mixed in family elements and nods to Georgia. I wore my older sister's veil and my late grandmother's necklace. In addition, I painted seagrass which Mary from Mariee Ami incorporated into our invitations! We also digitized my drawing of our dog Georgia for custom cups and koozies. Very sentimentally, my grandmother's handmade curtains were the stage’s backdrop for the band, which I loved. I also used peaches for the escort cards, and specifically Georgia peaches for the cake’s icing. Finally, for the reception, I didn't leave the front row of the dance floor the entire night. I LOVED our band. It was truly the best day and night of my life and I never thought I would be one of those brides to say that. If I could give future couples a tip, it’s to write as many thank you notes as possible prior to the wedding, this way, you don't have to think about it as much on your honeymoon and as newlyweds!
