A breathtaking proposal at a real-life castle is a hard act to follow, but somehow this couple pulled it off! This historic villa in Croatia has to be one of the cutest venues we've ever seen! From the parquet floors to the picturesque windows with a seaside view and the delicious pink color, this venue is fit for a princess, and this bride did not miss a mark. Though she ended up leaving a lot of her initial DIY dreams to the professionals, she did have a hand in selecting all of the decor. If you've been searching for that timeless fairytale wedding inspiration, this is it!
These photos by Mihoci Studios are so perfect, we did a double-take when we realized that this was a real wedding. Lepor Weddings kept the florals pretty but understated as the bride wanted them to merely enhance the venue. Das Hochzeitswerk worked closely with the couple to design their big day and helped them manage the stress of planning a destination wedding. This romantic al fresco wedding was held in a beautiful pink villa on the Adriatic Coast in Croatia. Located in the small, waterfront town of Poreč, Villa Polesini is an elegant and romantic wedding venue. Viktoria and Timo saw each other for the first time that day at the ceremony, which was held in the courtyard of the villa with the view of the Adriatic Sea. The ceremony was decorated with white flowers and olive branches–an iconic Mediterranean style. After their emotional ceremony, while their guests enjoyed cocktails around the villa, we took them on a stroll through the small town Poreč for their wedding photo session. Viktoria & Timo’s reception was blessed with perfect weather, a gorgeous sunset, and emotional speeches.
We got to know each other through a very good mutual friend. When I saw Timo for the first time, it wasn’t love at first sight. But, I gave him a chance, and we met regularly. He always took great care of me and organized super nice dates. Seven years later, I am writing our wedding story. What can I say? It was worth giving him a chance. He is very romantic and so was his marriage proposal. He took us to the Neuschwanstein Castle, where King Ludwig II once resided. When we arrived, my whole family was already there with sparklers. He made a big heart out of candles. While he asked for my hand, our song was playing–"All of Me", by John Legend. Of course, I said YES! It was an incredible and unique moment.
Since we started living in Germany, we have been looking for a suitable wedding location in our hometown for a very long time. Unfortunately, we didn't find anything. We were just about to get married in a civil registrar's office but, secretly, I've always dreamed of a summer wedding with a view of the sea. When I told my husband and family about it, they loved the idea! Without support, we didn't dare organize a wedding abroad, so my cousin recommended a wedding planner. As I really liked the blog of the wedding planner, I knew that she should accompany us on our adventure. Thanks to our wedding planner, Duška from Das Hochzeitswerk, my dreams came true. When we thought about where the wedding should take place, our choice fell immediately on Croatia. Not only does Croatia have beautiful beaches and a very interesting culture, but the residents are also incredibly friendly. We knew our family and friends would feel very comfortable there and that was very important to us.
Ultimately, the wedding took place in beautiful Poreč in Istria at the romantic Villa Polesini. The villa itself is in an enchanting delicate pink color. Since the villa is so impressive, I didn't want too much decoration. That's the reason why we chose a simple but romantic style. We wanted the colors to remain subtle, so the choice fell on white with a few gold and green shades. In order to do justice to the charm of the villa, many candles and fairy lights were important to us. Even the playful trees around the table setting were shining in lights. It was wonderful!
To find the perfect dress, my mother and one of my best friends came with me. I was excited because I didn't really know what style I wanted. I tried on very few dresses because I quickly fell in love with one particular dress, my dress. My mom and girlfriend were totally horrified because they were prepared to spend a long time shopping since I am very picky. My mom really wanted to shed a few tears, but I decided so quickly, she didn't have time to tear up. I was confused myself and decided to sleep over it one more night, but the dress just couldn't get out of my head. Together my mother and my sister drove to the shop again. I tried it on and the three of us started to cry. It was my dress! It doesn't matter how many dresses you try on to find your perfect dress, all that matters is how you feel about it. Once, you've found your dress, you'll feel it.
The search for the perfect suit turned out to be far more difficult! We couldn't find a suitable suit for a long time. We were in and out of many stores until we found the right one, and it was still at the tailor's a week before we went to Croatia! Nobody should say that women are complicated!
Before we decided to get married abroad, I wanted to do as much as possible for the decoration myself. But, when we finally decided on Villa Polesini, I wanted as little decoration as possible! However, I still wanted to contribute something myself. We ordered an easel with a large picture frame. Duška decorated it with a matching floral decor on the day of our wedding. My Maid of Honor and I made funny prompts for the guests on the easel, they were then allowed to take photos with a Polaroid camera during the day and attach them to the string of lights in the picture frame. I still look at these pictures with a smile on my face. It is a super nice memory!
In retrospect, I can't possibly pick a favorite part of the wedding, I enjoyed every single second! But if I had to decide on only one moment, it would be the moment when I walked with my dad to meet my husband. It was incredibly magical. I was so excited because I hadn't seen the ambiance in the garden of the villa before. Everything was a surprise for me. I only heard my bridesmaids and maid of honor screeching because they were so thrilled. The moment had finally come and I could walk down the path–seeing my family and friends, seeing the incredible decor for the first time, and of course, seeing my wonderful husband who was waiting for me, excited and full of joy. I still get goosebumps and tears in my eyes when I remember that moment! My advice for future brides and grooms is to simply enjoy the day and every single second. This day is special, so don't let the little things stress you out, because they make the day memorable, right? The day goes by so quickly, so have fun soaking up every moment and enjoy.
