Kat and Jeremy are two of my many, sweet couples affected by the 2020 pandemic. I met them both in early January when we did their engagement session in Joshua Tree National Park!
Since then, they have felt more like friends to me than clients. Kat and Jeremy's original wedding was scheduled for this past summer, but when they had to reschedule due to Covid-19, they took it gracefully and did what so many others had to do.
They got a new date for 2021 and planned an elopement at Point Dume, Malibu in the meantime so they could just do the damn thing and tie the knot. Here's the twist. Twenty-four hours before their scheduled elopement, their 2021 venue called them with the news that they went bankrupt and would be forced to cancel Kat and Jeremy's wedding.
Of course, they were heartbroken, and on the eve of what is supposed to be one of the happiest days ever. While its true they were planning elope, they were still planning on and had dreamt of a huge, magical party with their closest friends and family in 2021.
Instead of letting the sudden news defeat them, they rounded up their resources and in less than 24 hours, transformed their tiny "Elopement" into the Elopement of their dreams. They reached out to Kat's initial MUA, Makeup X Cait, and hair artist, Hair by Andie J, who both happened to be available for the day! They found the most talented florist, Iris and Barry Blooms, to put together the most gorgeous dehydrated bouquet and turned something potentially catastrophic into something beautiful. Kat looked absolutely stunning floating around in her Marchesa Notte Bridal gown in "Bailey."
Kat really wanted to incorporate a pastel color palette with the vibrance of golden hour. We began their elopement at around 5 and ended at around 7pm as the sun was setting. Iris and Barry Blooms did such a beautiful job creating Kat’s dehydrated bouquet and floral garlands, she absolutely nailed it. Kat and Jeremy also wanted to honor Kat’s Indian roots by traditionally exchanging the floral garlands during the ceremony. Point Dume ended up being the perfect spot for Kat and Jeremy to exchange their vows with officiant Your Perfect Ceremony.
We started off on the south-facing side of the cliff, where the sun painted the coastline vibrant colors of green and turquoise. After the ceremony, we walked over to the north-facing side where I got to snap shots of the two of them dancing around and basking in the golden hour sunlight.
Kat and Jeremy had to deal with a lot of surprises and yet handled the ups and downs of their wedding plans with such grace and optimism. I know this unprecedented season has been heavy on so many, but it is such a light in the darkness when love is able to prevail and two well-deserving people get to go through with promising their forevers to each other, despite the circumstances. I feel so lucky to know them and to have been a part of their adventure.
