Elegant Heirloom Estate Wedding in Mexico
Are you looking to through a big bash for your big day? Well let us tell you, Mexico seems to be were it is at! Ale and Juanito's wedding was a heartfelt celebration on his families estate that amped into a full out festival of fun with masks, hats, sparklers, and fireworks to wrap up the whole event. But that was only half of it. If you keep on scrolling you can see their traditional pre-wedding parade complete with a mariachi band, singing, and a tequila toting donkey! Trust us, this wedding will knock your sandals off!

From the Bride:I'm from Peru and my husband is Peruvian-American. Living in and loving San Miguel de Allende for 4 years, it was easy to make the decision to get married there. We got married on the property that Juanito’s grandfather bought for the love of his life in the 1940’s. They named it “SonjoWasi” (Direct translation in Quechua “heart home”). It is an amazing property full of history and beauty.
The ceremony was held on the main lawn of the property. We had what I like to call a “Love Ceremony” - a symbolic ceremony with no attachments to any religion in particular, but with the presence of God. One of my bridesmaids performed a candle ceremony which symbolically united the two new families in light. The ceremony was touching and vibrant.
When I bought my dress I wanted a simple one. Then I got excited by all the dresses I saw on the internet and in the stores and began to worry that it was too simple! So I decided to buy lace in Peru and add it to my dress. I loved the end result (it was a little heavy but I got used to it really quickly). I was so happy that I didn't care about anything else!
The professionals we found in San Miguel de Allende made the planning and execution worry free. Guadalupe Alvarez our event designer from Penzi was amazing, creative, and had everything under control at all times. They do everything from the tents to the lighting, from the decorations, to the catering. The photographer Charley Smith Photography was amazing as well. He was very professional and easy to work with. His style and his ability to frame a shot was refreshing and has made for a book of beautiful memories.
We wanted a romantic and elegant wedding, but since it was outdoors we also wanted to complement nature and its beauty. As centerpieces we had gorgeous trunks/logs with native succulents, wild flowers, and orchids. As decorations we had vegetable boxes, pots with herbs, and antiques. I trusted my wedding planner completely! My husband and I showed them the big picture of how we wanted everything and they nailed it! Everything was spot on. Even better than we ever imagined! I think that the key was not to worry, be relax and enjoy every moment. Looking back it makes me happy, because I could enjoy and let things flow.
To continue with the Mexican tradition, we had a full buffet of contemporary Mexican cuisine and at the bar they served different flavored margaritas. Mojigangas were the hit of the party. Throughout the party there were also costumes and masks for the guests, sparklers, noise makers, and of course fireworks.
But wait, that's not all, rewind to the day before Ale and Juanito's big day! This adorable couple chose to have a traditional Mexican celebration to break the ice for all those celebrating with them.
From the Bride:We had people coming from many different countries, so we wanted to show everybody what Mexico, and San Miguel de Allende in particular had to offer. One tradition that we wanted to include was the “Callejoneada.” It is basically a walking and dancing celebration along the cobble stoned streets. Mariachis with their instruments leading the way and a donkey carrying tequila on its back to share with all guests. Bride, groom, family and friends dance, laugh, and sing their way to the next destination. In our case, 5 blocks to La Parada, a Peruvian Restaurant, where the dancing and celebration continued! It was a blast! It was an awesome way for everyone to meet before the big day.
