Rustic, Vintage And Elegant Wedding Ideas
If you are up to planning a destination wedding, we say go for it! Although it may feel out of your comfort zone, it is the perfect time to get away and enjoy your friends and family. Our next couple decided that a destination wedding was the right choice for them, and opted for a New England destination wedding at The Round Barn Farm.
Their wedding was filled to the brim with rustic charm and personal touches. A lot of which were made by the bride and her friends. Read on to hear more about this vintage and elegant wedding, and you simply must peruse the entire gallery to see all the photos captured by Christa Elyce.
From The Bride:When we were engaged, I immediately knew I wanted an outdoor ceremony and something away from the city. Alex grew up in New England and it was an easy decision to find somewhere up there to have our wedding. The first time I saw the Inn at the Round Barn Farm, I knew right away that it was where we were going to get married.
I loved its rustic charm and the owners and staff were so sweet and helpful. I knew that the style I wanted was rustic/vintage but elegant and that fit right in with the barn. I myself am very creative (and hardheaded) and had a hard time giving up decorating to others. So, I decided that with the help of my fiance,best friend Sheron, my wonderful photographer/friend and a few great vendors, I could do most of the decor myself. Alex made the table numbers after I hunted down the old doorknobs, I made banners and Sheron's Mom, Ginger sewed the "Bienvenue" banner. It was very DIY right down to the tags on the Tiny Pies and the "Love Is Sweet" stamped on the favor bags.
As for the planning side, I will say that it was tough planning from afar and trying to do so much myself. It is hard to visualize things without being able to see the space. Regardless, it was still fun to plan. It was great to get away a few times and visit Vermont to do the planning. For our wedding colors, I did not want to go with the typical fall colors of Oranges and Browns. So, instead I chose my Mother's favorite color,plum/purple, and peach, a muted orange tone to lighten it up a bit. My mother passed away a few years ago and I wanted to do what I could to have it feel like she was there. She is who inspired all of my creativity!
Tips On Saving Money:You are able to save a lot by doing things yourself. I did much of the decor myself with the help of my friend Sheron. We made the welcome banner, the Mr. and Mrs. chair ties, the LOVE sign made of wine corks, the favor bags and tags for the tiny pies and much more.. The table numbers were made by Alex, my husband and he also made the chalkboard for the ceremony.
Luckily I had a great photographer that also has beautiful handwriting. She wrote on the chalkboard for us. Due to the fact that Alex is French, I wanted to bring some of his culture into the reception. Doing things yourself allows you the freedom to bring what you want into the decor. This is why we chose the "bienvenue" banner, the "merci" tags on the pies and the lovely french macaron tower (made by Cuisine Lucette). I think that not only does doing things yourself save you money, but it also lets you put your own personal touch on the wedding. It is nice to see your own hard work in the pictures and be able to say "I did that"!
Speaking of the dessert table... I think it was my favorite part of the decor! Being a cake designer myself I knew the look I was going for and was very picky about how it was styled. Nancy helped create the scene with her great props and hunted down some vintage plates for me. Marie-France at Cuisine Lucette provided that cake and all of the fabulous desserts.
I told her it was very hard for me to hand over my wedding cake design to someone other than myself, but she did a great job! She also agreed to let Sheron and I make the flowers for the cake so that it had a personal touch to it. Sheron and I own Sugary and Chic Cake Boutique in Houston and we love what we do. We love creating wedding cakes for our brides. Of course we had to play a role in my own wedding cake!
Overall, I loved having a destination wedding. It forces you to step out of the box, get away from the everyday hustle and bustle and also forces your guests to enjoy a mini vacation. Yes it was a bit hectic to plan, but worth every minute! I couldn't have hoped for a better wedding. It went so smoothly thank to Lisa Reisner and everyone else at The Round Barn Farm. Without a doubt, it could not have happened without such a supportive (then) fiance my best friend Sheron, my family and great vendors to pull it all off. Many thanks to all involved!
