From the Bride:The day before my wedding my father was hospitalized for Pancreatitis. Everything is fine now and he is healthy, but he wasn't able to make it to the wedding as they had to send him to a hospital closer to home. My brothers stepped in at the last minute to walk me down the aisle. They even all took turns dancing with me during what should have been the father daughter dance, along with my uncle (my dad's brother).
Thanks to technology and wonderful friends, my dad was able to Skype in from the hospital to see the ceremony and got to say "Hi" to me before the wedding. While I of course would have wanted my father there, it became a wonderful bond my brothers and I now share.
My husband and I discussed whether we would have done anything differently awhile back and our answer was no. We felt that we had plenty of time to plan and every decision was well thought out so we didn't have any regrets. In fact, we were pleased with the "extra" things we thought we ordered. We had a videographer, which we hadn't initially planned on. She is a friend of mine and gave us an affordable deal, so we went for it.
It turns out it was a blessing in disguise because of my father's hospitalization. I couldn't have changed the fact that he was sick, but I am able to share a video of that day with him, to make him feel part of his daughter's wedding (which he has shown to his co-workers over and over to the point where they are now sick of it!) So, my advice to brides would be that you can't plan for the unexpected, but you can prepare to treasure your memories and share them by having them captured in videos and photographs that will last a life time.
Wonderfully enough we have a DIY project that gives you step by step on how to create similar door knob table numbers.
