Chris and Kimberly live and work in California, but are both originally from Kentucky. When they got engaged, they knew they wanted to celebrate their wedding day back in Kentucky along with all of their friends and family. They wanted their wedding day to reflect a southern vintage elegance, with lots of charm, romance, and a sense of timelessness. They made it a point to add touches of ruffles, lace and monogramming throughout the wedding day to add that romantic touch.
Kimberly wanted the soft rolling hills of the Kentucky backdrop to guide her color scheme. So, they chose The Ashley Inn for their venue because it had an outpouring of Southern charm and history. You can feel the romance in the soft colors with hints of peach and lavender. All captured with just as much grace and elegance as the wedding by Kentucky wedding photographer Nina Mullins Photography. See more of this Kentucky southern charmer in the full gallery here.
One of the most beautiful parts of the day was at the beginning of the ceremony. As Kimberly and her father came down the hill in a horse-driven carriage, the horses on the farm galloped quickly over to the nearby fence to greet them. It was a special moment to witness
For the reception they wanted to keep the theme simple and romantic, and used mercury glass and sparkling tea lights on the tables. The groom's cake is unique to Chris, as he is an assistant athletic director at the University of the Pacific, and he loves football. The football groom cake just seemed apropos. You can see the groom cake in the full gallery here. To make their first dance extra special, they took dancing lessons before the wedding so they could have a unique and fun first dance together as a married couple.
