No matter the time of year, the Biltmore features attractions that are unlike anything your guests have seen before. With a wondrous azalea garden and eighty thousand tulips blooming in the spring, followed by fields of sunflowers in the summer, it is always stunning! The antiquity of the property lends itself to creating stationery that you might find in the actual details of the Vanderbilt home; within the embossed wallpaper, ornate woodwork, treasured artworks, or the rich draperies adorning each window. Featuring a family crest-style monogram, just as the Vanderbilt's would have on their own letterhead, was a design choice I did not second guess. Updating the look with watercolor and hand gilded touches was a must. Vintage details such as threaded buckles and floral appliques, confirm the era of a time gone past, while watercolored cross-stitch inspired artwork adds a nod to modernity. With acres of forest woven throughout the property to include restaurants, shops and a winery, a hand-drawn map was a necessity for the navigation of guests. Although George Vanderbilt constructed a stately home with miles of landscaping ingenuity, his desire to live in the simplicity of the North Carolina mountains inspired me to instill this approach in my artwork.
A bit about the wedding venue
The majesty of the Biltmore home and grounds was an irresistible backdrop with all its beauty and splendor seen at every turn. When I first approached the estate, cliche as it may sound, I felt as if I were stepping into a masters painting. Immediately I knew, somehow this feeling of being immersed in a magical scene of historical magnitude, needed to be distilled...albeit in a fresh, more artful way. Bursting with a sense of pride, the Biltmore is a place yearning for exploration. Implored to share my awe of the Biltmore with others and inspired to present this historical property in a decidedly artful light, I set out to build a team as mystified by this place as I was. The home and grounds have been maintained and treasured by the Vanderbilt family for generations, and having been graciously given the opportunity to experience the splendor this, still feels like a precious gift.
