DIY Oak Canyon Nature Center Wedding: Simple, Organic & Significant

Bride and groom seen through trees on their wedding day

Travis and Christin cared about three things at their wedding ... that it would be simple, organic and significant. They stuck to their plan and everything, from her dress, to the decorations and the location all contained those three important elements. They designed and hand-crafted everything from the wedding invitations and programs to the ceremony and reception decor. With help from both  their families, they were able to pull off their DIY Oak Canyon Nature Center Wedding.

My flowers made me cry. I had no idea they would be that beautiful. My mom made all the desert and even our cake because I am Gluten free. Our nieces and nephews were ring bearers and flower girl. (we love them). One of my favorite parts of the day was giving our flower girl Kayla her gift. We gave her a handkerchief that belonged to her great, great grandmother. I know she doesn't understand the significance now, but one day she will. We included with it a letter from us which expressed our hope that she would carry the handkerchief on her wedding day for her "something old".

Our Ceremony location was chosen because shortly after we got engaged several different people at different times spoke a word of encouragement over us which was "blessed is the person who trusts in the Lord, they will be that a tree planted by the water whose roots run deep. It does not fear in the time of drought because it will never cease to bear fruit" When I found this lovely nature center with its serene environment and giant trees that were clearly drawing water form the the stream that ran behind the alter I knew it was it. I took Trav there the next day and we were hooked. Everything about that place is tranquil, peaceful and so significant to us.

All of our decorations were DIY. We wrapped the 20 something yarn bottles, the mason jars are Travis' great-grandmothers (literally turned blue because of age). I LOVED having them as part of our wedding. We used old suitcases, windows and burlap. And as you know, succulents!
